so I have a short story to present tomorrow and I need the name of a famous drinker in history to use in one line. I was thinking Hemingway but we've discussed him at length in the class and I want something more original. Doesn't have to be a writer, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: I need to be a little more detailed. It works better if the person thrived in high society during the 40's - 50's. The paragraph is about a traditional drink that was once booze and ice and has completely changed into a fruity concoction.

interestingly enough, while looking for names I found a book about alcoholism that had a paragraph explaining why many writers are alcoholics.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy
I don't drink anymore. Of course, I don't drink any less either
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading
I drink alone. Yeeeah, with nobody else.

Churchill

a favorite story (who knows if its true) is that at a party some old woman accosted him and said "you, sir, are drunk" to which he responded "yes, and you, madam, are ugly. The difference is that when I wake up tommorow I'll be sober."

George Thoroughgood. He's made a good living off of singing about booze and partying.
