family trees in Lord of the RIngs

glen

Lifer
This is a universe, which originally did not even have a sun and moon.

The sun and moon were created long after elves and middle earth.
There is no sensible way to make a time comparison to earth.
The moon is a flower from Telperion, a tree with white flowers.
I assume it is related somehow to the tree in Minis Tirith.

Let's see:
Valinor is a nice happy place lit by the two trees of Valinor.
One of silver (Telperion - made by Yaavanna)
and
One of gold (Laurelin - made by Nienna)

Melkor ( Sauron was but a servant to Melkor) and a Giant spider, Ungoliant ( mother of all spiders including the ones who attack the dwarves and Bilbo in the Hobbit, and Shelob who Sam and Frodo have trouble with) destroy these two tree. This is known as the Darkening of Valinor, which basically begins the first age.

Sounds pretty bad, but fortunately, Yaavanna had made another White Tree form the seeds of Telperion for the elves in the city of Tirion. This tree was called Galathilion, which was also kwon as the:

White Tree of Tirion

A seed from this tree grew on Tol Eressea, which was a huge island that Elves used like a giant boat to travel between Valinor and Middle Earth. This tree was called Celeborn, which was also known as the:

White Tree of Tol Eressëa

A seed from this tree grew in Numenor (another island - a gift from the god's to men), but the tree was burned by Sauron. This tree was called Nimloth, which was also called the:

White Tree of Numenor

A seed from it was stolen by Isildur and planted in the Court of Minas Tirith. This were known as the:

White Tree of Minas Tirith or the:
Dead Tree

It reflects the 'health" of the kingdom of Gondor, and is emblazoned on all of their armor.
So, at the beginning of ROTK, you can see it looks dead, but at the end of the movie it blossoms with flowers that rain down like confetti.

Isildur was really quite the stud wasn't he. His resume is most impressive.

--Cut the One Ring from the hand of the Lord Sauron.
--Kept it, ensuring thousands of years of grief on earth.
--Survived flooding of (whatever the name of that island was that got wiped out because the men were too nosy).
--Brought back seed of the White Tree.
--posed for Argonath statue.
