My last comment was a joke in reference to people who got mortgages they claimed they did not understand. Sorry it went over your head. I didn't meant to imply you specifically spend that dollar amount while making that exact salary.

If you have a mortgage, you agreed to pay your property taxes to protect the mortgage company's interest in the property since you still owe them money.

I am not sure what agreements are made if you pay for a house in cash though. I do not know if there is anything in the fine print of the contract that require the purchaser to pay all applicable property taxes. If there is, then the purchaser has agreed to pay them.

If there isn't, then I stand corrected.

it sounds like you are confusing mortgage insurance with property tax. two completely different things. or you are talking about including your property tax in with your house payment. when i bought my house i had a choice i could either do the escrow and have my bank pay it or i could elect to pay the property tax myself when the bill came in. there is no signed paper contract between you and the county on paying your property tax. you own the dirt you pay the tax.

my point still stands, dont pay your tax the government takes your land. so who really owns the dirt? not you, not me. property tax is rent you are paying, its one giant HOA fee.

Of course, you would not see the gypsies occupying house where people live, but when you look in the old buildings from the old downtown area of Bucharest, you will see them full of Gypsies. This is what they do, and they have done this for ages.
But it was not always like this. There was a time, during the Communist era, when Ceausescu, the romanian president back then, used to throw them in prison and keep them there, or to send them to work.
But all the things have changed, when Romania got into the European Union, and EU has inforced all these stupid laws against discrimination. The discrimination against the minorities. And gypsies are a minority in Romania. We, the romanians, we are all against gypsies, we cannot stand them at all. We would kill them if we had the chance. But the EU, is imposing all these stupid laws. Help the gypsi community, give gypsies equal rights, and so on and so forth.
There are different types of gypsies, we are not against all of them. There are gypsies that sing, they are craftsmen. With these we do not have any problem at all. We have a problem with the gypsies that steal, beg, pretend that they are ill, kill and rape women in Italy, squate homes in England. But there you have it!All because the stupid EU that is promoting and imposing all these laws against discrimination. Common, I am a Romanian, I know what I am talking about.
The romma population?This is something that was also invented by the EU, and the romanian gypsies took advantage of. It is easy to say that Romanian comes from the Roma population, isn`t it? And you the western people have to believe this!Believe all this crap, give them rights, and in no time you will see them setaling your houses, your money, raping your daughters. But don`t blame this on the Romanian people. We cannot stand them either!!!
If it weren`t for the EU, NATO and UN and all that crap, to secure romanian gypsies rights, they would have been long gone. But no, you, the western people gave them rights, you treated them like they were real people, and when they told you that they were romanians you believed them. And now, you are crying like babies, when they steal your houses, and rape your daughters, and beg for money at the corner of the street.

So how farfetched is it to think that people could whip up their own papers that make it appear they were in the property legally, knowing that when they are challenged all they have to do is wave those papers to buy months of time to live there free? How convenient that they don't seem to know how to contact their landlord.

In Riverside, California, KABC-TV Channel 7 reports:

• Rental scams are on the rise in Riverside County. Police in Moreno Valley are investigating a suspected case of felony fraud. One family lost their house and their money even though their rent was paid. It had seemed like the perfect house. Marilyn Elliott and her two children moved in last month. But on Sunday night, it all turned to chaos. "They were like, 'You need to open up the door.' And I'm like, 'What is this?'" recounted fraud victim Marilyn Elliot.

• It was the Moreno Valley police investigating a report of squatters on the property. What a way for Marilyn Elliot to find out that the lease agreement she signed was bogus. The house was entering foreclosure and officers ordered Elliott to be out within 24 hours.

• The Fair Housing Council [of Riverside County] (http://www.fairhousing.net/) says that many victims do not know their rights. Under the law Elliott does have temporary protection from eviction. "On a weekly basis we are flooded with calls about the same situation," said Juanita Kodera, Fair Housing Council. "If she has been in the unit over 30 days, that makes her a tenant." It took some time to prove she had been there for a month. The receipt for the $3,500 cash she paid was just a handwritten note. Now the police department says it will be up to the bank to give Elliott more time.

I guess its happening quite a bit since the housing meltdown. People abandon homes, or homes are up for sale. Scammers either break into the home and unlock it, or follow a real estate agent and watch them undo the key padlock.

Scammers then pose as rental agents themselves, collect cash deposits for the rental, give a bogus lease, then vanish.

Family or bank comes back sometime later (sometimes way later) and wonders WTF is in the house. Renters show papers and receipts. Police are called and then the whole mess has to get sorted out. In some sense, you have to show the home owners are not connected w/ the scam themselves. They could always pretend to rent out the house via 3rd party, show up, kick renters out and pocket the cash.

This woman lost her house in foreclosure, then rented it out as a scam. Renting family totally got screwed. Thank god no one went in w/ shotguns blazing on that one.

WILHELMINA JONES and her daughter made sure to do their homework before renting their house in Southwest Philadelphia. Jones is ailing and out of work and her daughter was eight months pregnant at the time. The $3,000 they had for rent and security deposit was a gift from a family member; there was no more where it came from.
"We know there's a lot of people out there who are flim-flam artists and we didn't want to get involved in no real life drama," Jones said.
So they checked city records on the two-story brick rowhouse, and it seemed as if everything was on the up and up. But the caution turned out to have been for naught.
Kia Morrison, the woman who rented them the property on Edgewood Street near Elmwood Avenue, had lost it at sheriff's sale three months earlier.
It was a fact they hadn't uncovered in their research - and a fact they said Morrison didn't disclose.
The real owner is Wells Fargo Bank, which - despite pleas from a city official - is evicting them along with the infant who was born in the meantime.....
