Family is Dropping the Landline

My family is going to be dropping the phone landline and just use our cell phones from now on. Question - is there anything we can do about the fact that most "landline phones" are MUCH more comfortable than cell phones? Because my mom doesn't want to do this switch since she hates talking on cell phones for more than a couple of minutes since they're so uncomfortable to her.

Is there any product out there such as a cradle for a cell phone which would connect to another handset for home use?

OK, I'll look into the Dock - N - Talk. Anybody have experiences with this?

Also, does anybody have experience with just dropping the landline? Did you feel you made the right choice, or did you regret it?

I've never used it so I would be sure to read some reviews before making the purchase. As far as the landline goes, I am required to have one with my DSL service. I haven't ever used it so it's pretty much like I don't have one anyways. My cell fulfills all of my needs, and the only reason I would want a phone connected to it would be for emergency only situations such as 911.

We each have cells, and dropped all the landlines, except for the one remaining landline the DSL service is on. Maybe you're on a cable modem so you don't need the landline?

The main former landline tel # was moved over to my cell, so all the friends & other callers still have valid contact info.

Cell sound quality is terrible, there's no getting aroung that basic fact, so I do regret that aspect.

The tiny size of the cell phone is a nuisance to me.
I'm always accidentally hitting the switches along its sides.

Traded off those factors for mobility. The mobility is wonderful.
The cell service's answering feature, and calls missed, and saving of numbers for calls received all are good features to have.

The holster and the car battery charger are also good to have, so if I have to drive off to LA or Silicon Valley I'm always still charged up. I never use the earphone thingy.

use Skype for my "official" home phone number i give to CC's and such, the one I don't actually want anyone to call me on

cell only it is fine, but then i don't use the phone much beyond my immediate family, so making it harder for other to reach me suits me fine

I dropped my landline over a year ago. One of my best decisions ever. I'm paying about $15 more per month ($50 instead of $35), but I'm talking a lot more, too. Trying to do an apples-to-apples long distance vs. airtime comparison, I'm barely paying anything extra for the convenience of a cell phone, and with my RAZR the audio quality is similar.

the price has gone up, probably partly due to the weak dollar, but they must have raised the price, i paid $36 for my last full year renewal, it now says $60 for a full year :Q

http://skype.com/products/skypein/

you can either forward the calls to your cell or use the voicemail when you are not "online"

i use one of these

http://us.accessories.skype.co...age&productID=66159900

to use my old normal wireless handsets with it, mainly to ring and do caller ID, then i call them back, if i want to , on my cell, so the quality is a moot point

and with that little box, i can back feed my dial tone into my house wiring so that my DISH box thinks it can phone home. unfortunetly, dialing out with that box requires a suffix to follow the number, so the Dish box doesn't ever connect, so I have to pay the extra $5/month , but at least the annoying popup doesn't show on the TV all the time since the box thinks it tried to dial home

land line is good for emergencies, runs on different power circuit as well:p

assuming you have atleast one corded phone of course.
911 works better, i dunno what the progress is on the 911 on cellphones, even if it works it might be routed through a non local center before they figure out how to reroute it....wasting time etc. do you really need to drop the land line?

Get a cheapo head set. I started using the free one that came with my phone after about a year of having it sit in the box. I always keep it on now when I'm in the house, so much better than holding a tiny cellphone to your ear.

dropped mine about 3-4 years ago, it's never been a problem. Called 911 a week ago when I witnessed an accident, got the locals immediately
