i don't watch much tv so i miss out on a few things. one was family guy. a guy at work got me hooked on it so i ordered the 1st 2 seasons.

1st question is about Stewie. Can anyone in the family understand what he's saying? it seems like most of the time they can't but sometimes they can. or do they just ignore him?

2nd question is about Brian. I know its a cartoon, but why can Brian talk and everyone in the family can understand him? none of the other animals can talk.

if any of this is explained in later episodes don't tell me me because I plan to watch all of them eventually.
 
It's never explained, but I don't think anyone understands Stewie, Brian is definatly understood by the rest of the family.

they understand some of what he says because in the one episode he says something about getting a cat and peter says thats a good idea.

there were other things too that people understood.

brian is the only character that consistently understands the baby. in early episodes, nobody but brian could understand the baby
 
Recall the epsiode where Stewie is in the bathroom with Peter

Stewie Griffin: Wonderful, and while we're at it, we could light up a doobie and watch porn.
Peter Griffin: Yeah?

 
1) They can understand Stewie but dismiss most of what he says as baby talk, etc

I don't think so. I think they can just 'selectively' undertand Stewie... when the plot / joke requires that.
 
Uh its a cartoon and your supoosed to sit back and enjoy it not try to decypher it all out as if it was a documentry 😛
 
Stewie - Can't be understood by anyone but Brian. He constantly talks about killing Lois, but she never knows.
Brian - Can be understood by everyone.

Not true. There are a few episodes where what Stewie says is clearly understood by everyone.

Lois often hears Stewie when he talks about killing her, but just dismisses it as Stewie being grumpy.

1. Only Brian understands and talks to Stewie.

2. Season 1 Episode "Long Road to Rhode Island" I don't want to spoil it for you.
