Need to direct relatives from newark airport to flushing or laguardia where we will pick them up... what's the best way for them to get there? Not really familiar with NJ at all... I'm reading there's an airtrain that goes to manhattan? Then what? What about the PATH?

Rental car is out as they don't need their own transportation once we pick them up.

Do they have a helicopter? A boat at least?

Anything but the roads there....

For PATH. Take train to world trade. Take any north bound subway train to 42nd and transfer to 7.
Or take PATH train to world trade, but get off at Journal Square instead, then transfer to a 33rd street PATH train. Get off there and take either subway or LIRR to flushing.

Call a livery cab is about $50 I think.

NJ transit can take you into Manhattan (NY Penn Station) - trip is probably $6-8 a person. From there the absolute easiest would be a taxi/limo to LaGuardia - they're readily available from Penn and will cost probably $35 total, max. Definitely worth it if they have a lot of luggage.

Cheaper would be $2 a person and take subway/bus.

Nothing direct from Newark to LaGuardia as far as I know.

why not just pick them up at EWR?

they used to have helicopters that wen between EWR and JFK, don't know if they're still around or if they go to laguardia.

your mass transit options are probably going to be taking a train from EWR to NYC/Penn Station, walking up to Grand Central, and then a subway out to Queens.

Path is your cheapest best, but you can always pick them up :)

Cab ride from Queens was about $100, it may be a bit cheaper to manhattan.. airlink shuttle is pretty affordable, like $20 based on drop off location

There's a bus from Newark to Midtown - from Midtown you can catch the 7 to Flushing.

PATH to Penn Station, then the LIRR to Flushing (20 min from penn to flushing)

edit: LIRR is ~$8/person off peak, one way from Penn. to Flushing
edit2: if its a large family, better off just getting a cab from Penn. to wherever they need to be dropped off

They can take a flight out to another city and then one back to LaGuardia. A big city like DC or Detroit is probably the best bet for getting connecting flights.

It's just 1 person from out of the country so the simplest for him is best... the bus/transfer/bus to midtown, then to the train may be too complicated. We've decided Penn Station destination is fine then.

Or take PATH train to world trade, but get off at Journal Square instead, then transfer to a 33rd street PATH train. Get off there and take either subway or LIRR to flushing.

I guess we'll do that then.. thanks all.

That would be quicker than public transportation too.

Tell them to take a cab FFS. probably around $100 to Flushing.

How many relatives?

Car service, that's what I'd do. Be sure that the fee is fixed and that you don't have to pay tolls extra.

Here is the info for AirTrain from newark to nyc. I've never done it myself but several folks i know use it. It still involves climbing up and down stairs (with luggage) at stations and so on. Depends on how sprightly your relatives are.

Good luck.

So I'm seeing PATH red line to "WTC station"... but no Penn Station stop...?

1 person is relatives?

Anyway, get your ass over there and pick them up. You're going to make a relative from out of the country take 3 or 4 different trains or buses to get to your house. Nice family you have there.

There are two path lines, one to WTC, one to Penn station.

seriously if the guy can speak english tell him to ask the transportation people int he arrivals terminal "how do I find the bus to midtown?" From midtown to Flushing is cake.

Or just go pick up your damn relative. If you live in Flushing the odds of you NOT having a car are extremely slim.

STFU you idiot. First of all it's not for me... it is my parents driving an hour out to manhattan from LI but they have jobs and can't get out there till 6pm when he arrives earlier. If they go from here to NJ it will take them most of the evening to do the whole thing and it is not worthwhile since he'd just be waiting around anyway after he gets here... he can come and save them a lot of time and effort by taking public transportation for a few bucks, which I'm trying to determine the simplest solution for. Now the solution is 1 train and a few bucks and it probably saves them an hour or two round trip.

If we really didn't care we'd make him take LIRR to our doorstep.

Easiest thing is probably to take NJ transit from EWR to NY Penn and then take a cab from there.

Don't get Newark Penn Station confused with Manhattan's Penn Station - two different places.

PATH doesn't go to Manhattan's Penn Station, it goes to 33rd Street and then you walk a block or so. Unless things have changed a lot since I lived on 28th Street.

Since he's heading to (NY) Penn Station, you might want to have him get onto the LIRR and save the folks from driving into the city?

EDIT: in other words, when he gets on the bus or whatever at the airport, make sure he asks for either Newark Penn Station or New York Penn Station - whichever route you decide. You want to be aware that at Newark airport, Newark Penn Station might be the default Penn Station, when you might really want NY Penn Station.

Also, I am reminded that there is a local bus at Newark Airport that goes to Newark Penn Station, when you can take the local PATH to NYC. This is evidently the least expensive way to get into the city from the airport - but remember, I've never done it so be sure to check it out if you think it's an option.

^ thx for the clarification... but we've decided WTC is actually better than midtown/Penn, then they'll drive to LaGuardia to pick someone else up even though it is further up north. The roads are more convenient that way. Thanks.
