a member of my household is currently interested in getting the Ruger P-89TH..basically the P89 (9mm) but with a Hogue rubber grip on it.

www.galleryofguns.com

If i search for it on there to find a local dealer, it comes up as $525.00. However, if i goto Ruger.com then search under special models for it, it lists the price as 400.00 or something close to that. It goes on to say that if you charge 25% to your credit card, once you get to the dealer, you then pay the other 75%. it seems like a really reputable site, however how can they allow a deposit for a firearm over the internet? is this thing legit or what?

just curious as to how this worked...

I think you have to go to the dealer first, pay for and perform the backgroung check(they will most likely charge a transfer fee also). Then order from Ruger and they will transfer it to your dealer where you pay the final 75% of the bill. If all else fails call Ruger and ask--

You can "buy" all the guns you want online. Its taking possession of the firearm that must be done in person through a licensed firearm dealer after completing all the necessary paperwork, identification, instant check, or waiting period (if applicable). See?

I see nothing on Ruger's site about a 25% deposit. Why wouldn't Sturm and Ruger's own website be 'reputable'? They're the manufacturer.

Gallery of Guns (Davidson's) inflates their listed price, go to Gunbroker.com and find a local transfer dealer, tell them waht you want & get them to give you a price.

Suspect you'll get a much better deal, my local FFL holder charges me very little over what Davidson's wholesale price is, and ignores the listed price, he says he does it to keep his volume up with Davidson's & stay on their dealer list.
