Fallout Tactics: Load times slower in Win2k than Win98

I recently "upgraded" to win2k from win98 and the time it takes to load saved games and move from a mission to the map or bunkers has gone WAY up. When I click load game, Fallout freezes for quite some time and then loads. I have the patch installed, and can't figure out how to speed it up.

However unlikely, if someone knows how to fix this or even just speed it up some, please let me know.
 
There are known issues with win2k and things like ATA100 drivers (especially with the Via 626B). Do a search, these issues have been already discussed.
