Huh. Interplay has been a ghost company for years now, so I'm surprised they've managed to (maybe) get something out the door.

I'll be really surprised if it isn't complete garbage.

Made by INTERPLAY? Holy bajeebus, I'm signing up!

Sarcasm I hope. The people who created FO 1-2 left many years ago to become Obsidian and Troika (Vampire: Bloodlines).

Interplay shut down except for a couple of employees around the time they sold the Fallout name to Bethesda.

Bethesda.

Nope. No Mutants Allowed confirms it's the ghost of Interplay:
"Breaking news: the official website for Fallout Online (Project V13) being developed by Interplay and Masthead Studios has been launched."

http://www.mastheadstudios.com/
"Masthead Studios, based in Bulgaria is a fast-growing international game development studio focused on creating next-generation MMORPGs ...

Earthrise is our upcoming post-apocalyptic MMORPG. Intense action combat. Unique skill-based advancement. Meaningful player-versus-player combat. All built on our proprietary game engine and platform."

(Makes me wonder if Interplay just had them reskin Earthrise.)

Bottom of the website clearly states:

Fallout® is a registered trademark of Bethesda Softworks LLC, a ZeniMax Media company, in the U.S. and/or other countries. All Rights Reserved.
This game is not yet rated by the ESRB.

Now they could just be acknowledging the copyright, but after the previous IP ownership spat something may have been worked out. I'm not entirely sure. Either way, something had to have happened given the court case is still ongoing.

It still looks like a Bulgarian game for ghost-Interplay. When Interplay (mostly) shut down they sold the IP to Bethesda except for the right to make the MMO.

The court squabbling has been about Bethesda not liking how Interplay has marketed the old FO1-2-Tactics bundles and (I forget the details) something about Interplay possibly losing the MMO rights if they fail to come out with the game.

Bethesda is mulling suing these guys. It'd be interesting to see if they settle. I mean, Bethesda did pay real money for the Fallout title.

Actually, Bethesda did not buy 100% of the Fallout franchise. But that has not stopped them from suing anyone with a previous license. David meets Goliath, except David never wins.

Interplay is basically obligated to make a Fallout MMO or lose the rest of the IP or something, so maybe they are doing this just to make it look like they have something in the works so they can sell the rest of the IP at higher value?

Honestly I don't think Masthead OR Bethesda can pull off a Fallout MMO that doesn't blow.
