If I complete the Tenpenny Towers quest in Fallout 3, am I always going to lose access to the traders inside the Tower? I don't want to kill the ghouls, but I want to be able to trade with the clothing shop etc folk.

Your attitude in this thread will not fly here. You requested help. Posters who responded trying to help do not deserve your angry, derisive responses. Consider this your one warning on these forums.

Yes, thanks, but that's no help. Firstly, I failed with two of them on the speech thing. Secondly, the ghouls will move in and kill the people.

I'm more after practical help from people that know, rather than someone who thinks their google skillz are superior to mine. Thanks.

Thanks Einstein, but if you keep reading, right from the part that says "Secondly", through to the next period, you'll see that this wont help.

Try the Wiki page for that quest, lots of information about it.

Wow, heaps of geniuses on this forum. Thanks for reposting the link from above that doesn't have the information I need.

It's been awhile but from what I remember the only ways to end the quest are to either kill the ghouls, help them take over the tower or convince the humans to allow them to move in.

As you already know the humans will end up getting killed in 2 of those. I went the route of convincing the humans to allow the ghouls to move in and IIRC after a bit of time there were ghoul traders to buy from.

If you complete the quest but don?t kill the ghouls then all the traders will die. It?s that simple.

You only need to kill the lead ghoul after convincing humans to let them in. That might be the happiest outcome.

There is some kind of glitch, I think, maybe due to mods.

I recently played and convinced the Tenpenny residents to let the ghouls in, and then I went to the head Ghoul to let'em know. I thought all was kosher.

Later in the game, however, ThreeDog chimes in and reports that the "Lone-Wanderer" let the ghouls kill all the residents.

I went back to Tenpenny to find that there were no more people there.

Is this what you're referring to?

Rakewell, yes that's what I'm referring to. What I want to know is does it bsaically make Tenpenny useless? For example, I'll no longer be able to buy stuff for my apartment, and there wont be anyone to trade with. And I like trading with people there, because they normally have a lot of money and there's four people to trade with in one place.

Whatever you do in Tenpenny's quest the end result is that all non-Ghouls will be gone eventually. If you help Roy Phillips get the Ghouls in they will then indeed be living with the usual Tenpenny people for a while, but after a few in-game days they will be gone, the only "trader" left will be Michael Masters, with Bessie Lynn being the only other resident. With some luck you can later find some of the surviving non-Ghoul residents at various locations in the Wasteland.

So, yes, to answer your question directly, that path of the quest makes Tenpenny useless basically unless you role-play your current game to actually make it useless and become an ally with the Ghouls or something along those lines. As you say, you like trading with the usual traders there, so to keep them just don't do the quest at all or go kill Phillips, but don't help him make his way in the tower. I myself always end up killing Phillips instead.

I don't wanna kill the ghouls because they're awesome, but I'm not giving up my tower apartment and amenities, so I'll be sidestepping this quest for now.

The Ghouls have their own merchants that replace the TenPenny residents. When I played through that I tried to talk the residents into accepting the Ghouls, but gave up and just let the Ghouls in. I've read of a way to get rid of various Residents to make that possible, but the Ghouls eventually kill off the Residents anyway. I'm playing through a second time and haven't decided yet what to do with this Quest, I'm leaning towards succeeding in getting the Residents to accept the Ghouls, the eventual outcome doesn't affect Karma, so from that perspective it's best. I'm also tempted to just kill them all myself, just for the hell of it. :D

Eat balls moron. If someone asks how to change the oil in their car, and I respond by telling them to fill the gas tank with sand, I dont expect that person to graciously accept my answer. Stupid answers deserve ridicule, and stupid idiots who fail to read the question deserve to get the fuck out of my thread.

Sandorski - thanks, that's what I wanted to know.

At first I thought that you just over-reacted and didn't make a case of it, so I came back to give you another explanation about what you were asking. But with this type of attitude you shouldn't expect much people around to help you from now on if they do remember you. I for one think that you need to get out a couple of minutes and take a deep breath of fresh air, and I'm not telling this to insult you, I'm actually honest, do it for real, it might help you cool down the steam.

First you resposted the same link that I had already said was unhelpful, then you gave me an answer that was plain WRONG, and what the fuck do you want? Gratitude? Fuck off idiot. Please don't post in my threads unless you've got something useful to say. Thanks.

Yikes, you sound pretty hard to please. I do know that there's a mod/mods that make Roy Philips and his ghouls not take away from your karma score when you blow them away. Essentially it flags them as evil so you can kill them without fear of penalty. This is what I did in my game, the ghouls took over after I unwittingly helped them so I got the mod and tried to achieve a little redemption for my actions. I knew I should have put a plasma grenade in Roy's pants when I had the opportunity. Anyway, you might keep those mods in mind if you ever play through again. Sorry if that's still not what you wanted.

Strange... you didn't reply about it being wrong after I posted it. You know (or apparently, you don't), the best way to know about something is to try it. You got a saved game, right? Alright, just do the quest and see what happens, you'll notice I wasn't "wrong". If you aren't happy with the result, re-load you saved game and you're done. You don't even need to come here to ask for anything, and from now on I sure hope that you're going to use some common sense. Try the damn quest for yourself and see what happens. It's not like you're playing with real fire, it's a game, and saved games are there for something, there's no risks, do it, and see for yourself.

And apparently you haven't done the quest anyway, I am not "wrong" in any way about what I said. If you do help Roy Phillips bring his damn Ghouls assholes in the tower they will live with the human residents for a while, until after a few in-game days after which those residents are gone and only a few Ghouls remain, the "main" ones being Roy and his two "friends", one of which is now a trader. There's nothing "wrong" about it, and it answers your damn question. You like the normal human traders in Tenpenny, so don't help Roy even if you like those stupid Ghouls or else you'll lose the traders eventually. It's that simple, but apparently you are so enraged about God knows what that you completely missed the point and thought I was "wrong" about something.

And, no I do not want gratitude from a person like you, or anyone around here for that matter. I simply tried to help you. I obviously made a mistake about the link in your first post. But instead of bitching about it you could have simply pointed at the mistake and told me to "please read the post again" instead of making yourself look like a moron with your « heaps of geniuses on this forum » sarcastic remark.

Stop being an ass.

It's ok, there's one web-site I like a lot, giving the following description on the meaning of "TLDR". It's rather... fitting, to put it this way:

«4. TLDR

Too Long. Didn't Read.

Frequently used acronym by lazy, ignorant people in Internet Forums, where their urge to type something exceeds their ability to read something or if they generally lack semantic ability to either comprehend or respond to a post due to underdeveloped brain.

Stating that they were to lazy reading someone else's post just confirms the ignorant attitude and also often destroys the discussion in the thread.
