So I finished the main quests in about 17 hours (all the way through, starting the purifier etc). The game ends with either you or Lyons dying.

I am like level 12... do i just need to pickup on my save where I exit Raven Rock and instead of fast traveling to the citadel just start doing all the side and freeform quests? I wish you could just resume playing after the end of the game but no such luck.

Also if you had to recommend one of the DLC packs to get, which one would you pick?

Also Broken Steel removes the main ending, so that it does not end with the purifier. This way you can keep playing after you have dealt with the purifier quest.

THE dlc to get is Broken Steel, period. It removes the ending (letting you play after finishing the main quest), ups the level cap to 30, allows companions to level with you (Dogmeat especially because truly badass - he soloed two high-level Deathclaws near Old Olney and survived) and adds tons of new extra STUFF.

The Pitt is _marginal_. It has its moments, but its not as good as Broken Steel or Point Lookout.

Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta are probably skippable unless you're super-hardcore.

I actually stopped playing the game about 3/4 of the way through, only because I'm hoping the game of the year edition has all those add-ons, including the one that lets you keep going and level up more.
Does anyone know if it actually will have all the DLCs up to this point, included?

It's almost worth waiting for someone to sell their GoTY edition on eBay and get it for around $50 as it is to buy all 5 add on packs...

Yah, Broken Steel allows the game to continue indefinitely after the main ending AFAIK. So you can go back and finish all the side quests with it. Definitely the one must-buy DLC.

I was suprised to see broken steel is only 800 points ($9.99). I would've figured they would want 1600 points ($20) for it. Glad to see that it is fairly affordable (still have to wait till i pay some bills...grrr I hate you real life).

So... now that we've established that Broken Steel is a must have. What is the best quest in the game in everyones humble opinions...

I assume you're talking about Paradise Falls? Although I made it to level 8 with neutral karma, I fear my level 14 achivement will be for negative karma. If i continue this way I will have access to Paradise Falls and not have to worry about killing them :)
