Fallout 3, shortcut in Steam, doesn't require CD

For whatever reason, when I played Fallout 3 through a shortcut I added in Steam, I was able to play without having my disc inserted.

Anyone else notice this, or anyone else know if this extends to other games?

That's the way it's always been for the stand alone version. It required the DVD if you ran the game from the launcher, but if you ran it directly from the game executable you didn't need it.

This.
Nothing specific to Steam, you just added the program .exe to Steam instead of the launcher .exe (hence probably why it didn't work for zerocool84).
