Is it possible to complete this quest both while keeping the T-51b unique power armor and with good karma (or at the very worst, no major negative karma)?

I?m playing as a goody-two-shoes kind of character so I don?t want to upset anyone. However, I really want that T-51b unique power armor for my personal use!!

I know I can pickpocket/persuade the three special keys away from people (I?m ok with the karma loss from pickpocketing ? I just don?t want anything worse). Also, I know I can avoid the Tenpenny part of this quest, altogether (being optional). What I don?t know is if the quest can even be considered ?completed? if I?m still in possession of the armor.

Tips and suggestions are welcome, but please don?t spoil anything outside of this miscellaneous quest itself. Thanks!

You can convince everyone to give you the keys without killing them and you will recieve no negative karma, all the quest giver wants is the keys. I'm with you, I had as good of a character as I could, in my case though Tenpenny was already dead (not by my hand...depends on how you do the quest Tenpenny Tower). A tip though, once you give him the keys make SURE you pickpocket them off of him, you need all 3 to get into fort Constantine or whatever (not a main quest, but lots of good stuff in there).

I dunno about the power armor, I found the talking prototype power armor, but I don't think that's what you're referring to. After getting the Ranger combat armor all the power armors seemed a bit underwhelming.

I got all the keys without killing as mentioned above.. Then, went to the fort and opened all the doors but did not take the armor. Return the keys to crowley, he wont attack you since you didnt take the armor. You get credit for the quest, then you can go back and grab the armor ( doors being opened ahead of time).

Warning though, Crowley will attack you on site once you take the armor, so get whatever buisness you have in ghoul city done ahead of time. If he attacks you in the underworld, the whole city will jump in..

I did have him track me down, and attack me in Rivet City on one playthrough but I didnt take a negative hit, nor did anyone else jump in when I smoked him there. Not sure if it was a bug, or what because it hasnt happened since.

T51B power armor is the best in the game DR wise I believe @ 50. Very nice for a tankish non-stealthy build. Downside is you cant self repair it with anything else though, you have to pay.

Its in the fort behind the locked doors in a stasis field near the dead merc ( cant rememeber her name) that has the 4th key.

I actually wasted all the alleged "bigots" the first time through having no way to convince them to nicely hand over the keys. Then I gave them back to Crowley and the lying bastard ghoul took off. So I reloaded and said "No, these are my keys" and he attacked me. I waited a few seconds for him to land some hits and then I put a .44 round in his scabby head. Nobody in Ghoulville gave me any trouble. Weird.

I talked everyone in to handing the keys over without a fight.

I pick-pocketed the keys from Crowley's ugly ass as he ran off with them.

Supposedly you can keep following him once he has the keys and after a while he'll turn on you just for following him and you can kill him without taking the Karma hit... that is, if the Raiders and wild animals don't get him first. I don't have the patience to find out if this is true or not.

While I love the Karma system, it's pretty easy to game it. If you want to do something that will lose Karma, then just get your servant bot thing to give you a bunch of purified waters and give them to the waste lander outside of Megaton, Rivet City, or Tenpenny Tower for free. Instant Karma boost.

I turned in the keys, the ghoul took off with them, I followed him out of Underworld and shot him in the head and took the keys back, then went and picked up the armor. Pretty sure I didn't lose karma for killing him; I don't think he counts as a good character.

Here's the best way, all of the characters can be talked out of their keys very easily... the guy in Rivet City will overdose on Jet (or psycho?) so pick some of that up and then you can just take his key. Dave will give you his key after some sweet talking as will Dukov. Go tell Tenpenny that there is a hit on him and he'll give you 100 caps, then just waste that fool, no karma loss

If your speech is high enough you can convince Crowley that you killed them all, give him all the keys then follow him out, he will go to the museum lobby where you can just waste him (or pickpocket him) and you won't lose any karma if no one sees you do it. Thats why you should wait until he's alone in the lobby.

Then go to the Fort and take the armor and the (another) fat man. DEFINITELY make sure you are carrying next to nothing when you go because that shit is heavy.

A word of advice.. the T51B is amazing but the helmet damages VERY easily so use a different Power Helmet off of one of the Brotherhood soldiers instead because that can be repaired fully. Furthermore.. repairing the T51B sucks because it only repairs just so much and costs caps..

MINOR SPOILER:

I use the Ranger Armor you get from completing Reily's Rangers because it gives you a bonus in luck/charisma(?) and boosts your melee and small weapons skills and can be repaired with any other ranger armor you find. The T51B is nice but doesn't let you carry extra weight like regular power armor and it's hard to get repaired. The Ranger Armor is the next best armor in the game outside of power armor.

Yup. I rock the Ranger Armor + Sheriff's Hat + Sunglasses. It looks kinda cool, too.

The Ranger armor can be repaired by using any sort of Combat Armor... so later in the game if you have Talon Mercs all up in your face you can repair it with their armor.

I don't remember exactly, but I think there is actually less weight if you use the ranger armor and carry around a spare combat armor to repair with than with any of the power armors + helmet.

Fallout 3 DLC tomorrow, apparently including crazier armor!

The topic? Oh, uh, just chat them out of their keys. The idea about following Crowley out the door and capping him is a good one that I hadn't considered. I always forget that people just vanish very often.

Wrong, the Ranger Armor is THE best armor in the game. Plus skills, high defense and when you wear power armor your run speed is slowed down. With the Ranger armor you have no speed loss. Doesn't look as cool but it gets the job done.

Eh, best is a matter of opinion.

Ranger armor is great for people who prefer agility over strength and carrying power. Also if you like to sneak. Power armor has around 2-3 more DR than the Ranger armor but if you like to carry around lots of shit you can't beat the power armor.

It depends on how you play the game. I still rank power armor higher because it has a higher DR, but as I said, I use Ranger armor.

You're only gaining 7 more "carry" points than the Ranger armor. Power armor adds +2 to strength buy weighs 13 lbs more than the Ranger armor.

Really? Guess it depends on your skills, my carrying power goes from 190 to 250 with the power armor equipped which is a big deal if you're carrying around a Fat Man.

Not to side track, but I just started playing this game last week on my Ps3 and I love it. I'm totally hooked. Are the other 2 any good?

The other two are COMPLETLEY different. Both are on computer only and are an over the head RPG type game.

Thanks. I knew they were PC based, but didn't know they were old school Over the Head types. I love me some FPS.

Those are great suggestions, everyone. Thanks!!

By the way, I agree about the Ranger armor. I wear it right now and I plan to continue wearing it. I more wanted the T-51b so I could look completely awesome when I feel like it, but not necessarily for the DR.

Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games of all time. Very much in the spirit of Oblivion, but the setting really takes it to a new level. Usually I ate sci-fi, too.

I did as Yreka, didn't kill anyone for their keys, then opened the gates, took the keys to Crowley, then went back and took the armor. The next time I was in the area he came after me, but if an NPC starts violence before you there is no anger if you kill him/her.

I loved this quest. Crowley's stupid ass came after me later since I stole the armor. Unfortunately for him, he was waiting outside of Megaton with his back turned. So he basically turned around, muttered something, and by then his brains were splattered all over the bum that begs for water outside.

On a side note, to get Charon's contract I reverse pickpocketed Greta with a frag grenade. It was spectacular. :p

I just gave the armor to Charon, so that it never gets damaged. It really cut down on the number of times I had to reload due to him dying.

Also after you get the quest you can talk to someone in Underworld that will tell you something about Crowley. Than talk to Crowley and he'll admit that all he wants is the keys, except he wants Tenpenny dead.

After I collected the keys, which Dave's was a pain because I'd already been to his republic and he did the "quest" there and my choice made him leave, I just went to Fort C. After taking the armor the quest updated and was marked as complete. I never did talk to Crowley afterward even after going back to check on the vendors.

I can't remember what I did with the armor. I used the ranger armor, couldn't pass up on the +luck and +AP and I had Charon wearing the Tesla power armor.

Side question since this thread seems to be fulfilled, do you guys use followers a lot? I've never had one except that dumb bitch in the stealing independence level and she kept dying so I didnt bother. Are they helpful other than killing people? (I'd rather get the XP myself)

I was happy when she died, she had a pretty bad ass 10mm SMG :p I had another follower, one of the knights from the brotherhood. She was useful in getting me through a tough spot with like 10 talon company mercs that conveniently were right at my fast travel point, but otherwise, no...I've gotten no use out of followers.
