Whats up everyone my first post, quick question, i havent been pc gaming in yrs thanks to the advent of xbox360, but i recently built a machine for me that was primarily* for blu-ray play back and wasnt expecting to playing any real pc games on it, but as it turns out fallout 3 turnout to be the best on pc platform so i bought it for pc, but I am having some graphicaly performace issuses, mostly bad/inconsistance fps, I was like you "experts" to take a look at my specs and tell my what would most greatly impact my fps in a positive mannor,

CPU: AMD 5200+ X2 @ 2.7ghz
RAM: 2gigs 400mhz DDR2
VIDEO: stock nvidia 8600gt 256mb ram
Sound: onboard realtek
HDD: 250gig / 8meg cache
OS: 32bit-Vista prem

Downloaded it from steam so i didnt list the optical drive.
My first guess would be my Videocard, going to 8600 to a 8800 would increase my fps by say 15-20 frames ? or maybe speed up my ram...i hear this helps but by only like 5 frames at best...and the resolution i would be playing at would be 720p with 4xAA & 16xAF, or 1080p AA off / 2xAF

8600 GT is a joke as far as playing games. Nvidia's mid range parts in the 8 series were notoriously bad.

You could look at the 9800 GT, 9800 GTX+, or ATI 4850 for an upgrade in the $100-150 range. Those would all offer much better performance.
