(Sorry wasn't sure what section to post this in)

I've been taking another shot at Fallout 3. Unfortunately, stuttering was a huge problem. I fixed it by reverting to 182.50. Stuttering is now gone, but performance may not be quite as good in general, and I'm guessing some games may not work as well anymore. Supposedly this problem has existed since 19x.xx

Any idea if there's a newer driver without stuttering problems? I'm hoping nvidia will be forced to resolve this prior to the release of New Vegas.

Hey fellow person from chicago :p I also have the same issue. Its like the frame rate is fine but theres some kind of stutter like its not smooth. Im using a GTX 460 with the 260.53 drivers i think.

I just figured I'd ask about this, but have you tried the ifpsclamp=60 fix?

The stuttering that fixes is generally referred to as microstuttering, which looks like frames are being dropped.

It turned out that I was not having that problem. My stuttering usually manifests itself when zooming in, as when using a sniper rifle, or when going into VATS.

Correct.

This sounds more like a sudden drop in fps. I think VATS has a slight delay on it no matter what. I've played FO3 on a number of cards and even on an xbox 360, and they've all had a delay when switching to VATS. The sniper rifle just sounds like you're experiencing a sudden drop in frames because you are zooming.

The NV driver stuttering issue I was talking about in the New Vegas thread is different. The symptoms of this are just general jerkiness for no reason. For instance, you can be walking through Megaton, and the game just locks for a fraction of a second every 5 to 10 secs on hardware that should have no problems running the game at all (like a GTX 280, 275, or even 470). I haven't had any issues with the last few whql drivers though or the new beta driver.

The thing is, there was definitive difference when I installed the 182.50 driver. It used to be that when zooming in, the game would basically stop for a second. Now, there is no such problem.

However, I feel like the overall performance of the game has dropped significantly...on the other hand, that may not be a fair assessment. I installed a whole bunch of mods, including Project Beauty.
