I am a huge fan of fallout 3 and was interested in playing the original two games. There were made in the late 90's so obviousley they were designed to run on old computers. My questions is will I have any problems running these games ofln my laptop, which is currently running vista. I wish I could say more about the graphics card, ram, etc. But frankly I really don't know anything about pc gaming. So I was wondering if anyone could help me out or give me an answer. Thanks. :)

I played them on a pre 2000 Presario, and they ran great (in Windows 98 anyway).

I think the specs were AMD 266, with 3d now, 4 GB HD, 32 MB ram.

You can buy them off GOG and you should not have any problems playing them on Vista.

These have such low requirements they could be played on a Netbook. Only issue would be running them on newer OS's. They play fine on XP though...

It took me a couple shots at the game to get the hang of it. When I finally did, I played about 15 hours in, then realized I didn't care much for how I progressed my character.
Started new game, then breezed through all the same content in about 8 hours. Got stuck & didn't really feel mood enough to dig around on how to get past Military Base. But now I see, & will have to get on top of finally finishing. Probably this week.

When there's classic games that can hold up well over time. This is most definitely one of them. Maybe not so much graphics. But quality, originality & style can still shit on some of the best games of today.

I was kind of sad when I couldn't use the unlimited XP exploit. Didn't seem to work out as described. Heh.

It's been a while since I played them but you should have no problem running the games on your OS. Even though the games are great, they are also some of the most buggiest games ever. I highly recommend that you go to the NMA website and download some patches and mods. Should Make for a more enjoyable experience.

As for the games themselves, they share many similarities with Fallout 3 but they are entirely different games. Fallout 1 & 2 are way more unforgiving for your mistakes. Try getting into combat at very early levels against more than one enemy can kill you. Even at higher levels you are not invincible. Also your skills and stats are a lot more important here. Remember to save often, especially when you are about to go on the world map. Some of them random encounters can be fatal. And finally I would advise you to not look at any strategy guides. The games are best enjoyed when you play them on your own and make all your decisions and learn from your mistakes.

Hope you can enjoy these classics.

I suggest getting the restoration patches. In addition to fixing a lot of bugs, they add a lot of stuff that was being worked on when released, but never finished so was only partially left in the code and not enabled in game.

There is an unofficial patch that allows you to run the game at your screens native resolution. It was not until the current rig in my signature that it was possible to do so. Fallout 1 and 2 require cpu power, not graphics power.

There's patches that improve thing.

Although, I'd think it would almost be worth it to play the original in Dosbox with graphics filters turned on.
