2 things I didn't like:

1 - Tom shooting down a alien ship from that distance with a RPG.
2 - The mech showdown at the school. All that ammo just to take down 1 mech? What happened to the single .45 caliber bullet that blew a huge ass hole in the already dead mech?

Someone mentioned nothing being in the mechs, but how are they controlled and why did the radio frequency send them running?

Just because you can get through the armor now does not mean it only takes one shot to destroy it as you have to do enough damage on the inside parts to bring it down just like in any armored vehicle we have.

A mine gives back one reinforcement every 45 seconds. - Note: this is merely a token gain, as reinforcements are usually lost at 10-20 times that rate.

yea the pissed me off. are they MECHS (a pile of metal) or do they have little gnomes inside them?? They ran off like they were in pain which to me suggest there is a alien dude inside it, but when they kill them and take it apart there is no alien dude inside them. since when does a robot feel pain?

lol yea there were like 20 fighters with about 600 rounds of ammo. after its dead they do a ammo check and they have like 3 rounds left per fighter...... so they wasted like 500 rounds. Some leadership there. lets blow all our ammo on one target when in the demo with the new ammo it took one round to blow a grapefruit size hole clean through it.

and whats up with the aliens wanting to "talk" after the humans kill one mech, run off another 10 or so and blow up one ship?? AFTER the had aliens take on and defeated every nations military in the world. after all that the aliens want to talk to a group of 40 rebels. lol lol lol!

they show the alien aircraft dropping bombs in the past episodes so why don't the aliens just drop one of their sparkly bombs on the school and just end it? Its what any military action would call for and we have been doing it since WWII. blow shit up then send in the troops. i guess the aliens don't have a West Point of planetary warfare. lol

They don't want to kill the kids so they don't blow up stuff like that after the invasion.

Also they only learned where the people were after the kid told them and with the jamming in place it might not had worked.

The aliens don't want to "kill all humans" because the "Skitters" are just any harnessed life-forms they happen to come upon. By killing the children they're just depleting their ranks.

1 - Yes, absolutely the worst moment in the show.
2 - I'm certainly ok with it requiring more than several shots to take it down... But to waste pretty much ALL of your super special ammo on one mech is pretty poor planning.

I interpreted it as the communication to the mechs being jammed. And since they lost communication, they just ran home, kind of like a default action if they don't know what else to do.

Is the show the greatest alien movie/show ever made? No, of course not, but it is very enjoyable I think. There's some stuff that is campy and could have been done better, but I have enjoyed it a lot and will be watching the next season for sure.

I guess I just don't want to sit there and analyze everything they did wrong ,screwed up, or was over the top on the show. I like to enjoy my movies, not criticize them at every moment.

On a side note, I thought it was great when they were in the truck with Pope and the black guy talking, and something was mentioned about the RPG. Pope says it's on safe, looks down, and puts it on safe. I thought that was pretty good.

I'm glad this season is over. I don't even know why I bothered watching every show. I guess the only reason is that I love alien invasion/survival/armageddon types of movies. The only two characters I care about are the "bad" guy (Pope? The cook who makes bombs and loves killing skitters), and the hot blonde chick who was rescued from his group. The doctor is ok, too. Everyone else is pretty hollow. The whole premise of the show is just poorly thought out. How is it that this super advanced alien race was able to obliterate all of mankind, but they don't know about an entire commune of 200 people living in a school? Why does it seem so easy to evade the mechs sometimes, and at other times they're inescapable? Why is the show so slowly paced? Waiting until 2012 for the continuation will feel like waiting for something to happen during an episode.

based on the demo of the new ammo, they made it seem like 1 fighter could take out a mech. Here they had a bunch of fighters all shooting 1 mech wasting all the ammo and it seemed like it didn't do jack shit to the mech.

I was wondering about the bombing too. why not just wipe them out with a bomb or even if they didn't want to hurt the kids, surely they could have used aircraft in other battles, but aircraft seem to barely be used at all.

The thing about the mech shootout, there were a couple hundred rounds used and when it went down it looked to have a little over a dozen holes in it.

Read the whole thread... this show pretty much sounds like another stargate universe... am I wrong?

I don't think everyone had those mech bullets.

If I remember the guy only left one case of them since the fighters were taking the most so the others were simply shooting normal bullets to distract it like they usually did before.

Pope is, far and away, the best character on the show. I was worried that he would "see the light" and join the resistance, heart and soul.

But as the series went along, all he cared about was killing aliens. Sometimes that went hand in hand with the group's plans, and sometimes it didn't. ;)

they start the sequence with him saying "ok everyone has 30 mech rounds".

I just finished the last 2 episodes last night. I think it is crazy there was only 38min of actual show for episode 9 and only 41min in episode 10. Holy shit that is alot of commercials.

Besides that I liked the show. As others have already stated there is not much Scifi on TV. I liked this show because it takes its self seriously, unlike many shows on SyFy.

FWIW 41-42 minutes is the normal runtime for an hour long show, unless its HBO/Sho/Max etc

Dow down more than 400 points! Oh wait, wrong 'falling sky' thread . . . :p

Well then, about the show - The guided RPG was unrealistic, but forgivable. The resulting large explosion was due to the small alien craft crashing in the landing bay.

Crap show - Glacial pace, shallow cliched characters, hackneyed plots. But I had to watch the finale to see what happens. And I did predict that the Skitters were merely underlings to bipedal alien overlords.

this. while the last 2 episodes were much, much better (despite massive stupidity), they aren't enough to convince me to struggle through another boring season.

Could have been so much more. Just hire a few good writers.

Season one sucked and the story show to show was in-cohesive. I hope season 2 is better. I'll give it a few episodes but I am not going to be very patient with it. Hopefully the budget gets upped and the true vision can be created.

yep. current tv run time is sooo shitty, that older series in syndication have to be recut because they run several minutes over the current norms for 30 or 60 minute programming.

just finished the 1st season. pretty good. way more action than most shows. sure it has it's flaws, but it has minimal filler and keeps the story chugging along. I didn't like the way some of the scenes literally play out (mech showdown, RPG shot, final scene) but the plot/script is actually good.

I'm also glad that the dude's teen son isn't a whiny emo bitch. I think that's a first for television in the past 2 decades.

Yeah, so the plot is Mass Effect but with Noah Wiley as a history teacher.
