I agree. I also found it odd that large packs of people were roaming around outside in the middle of the day without seeming to fear being attacked, yet a single flare draws an alien attack.

suspension of disbeleif? they mentioned them not being able to easily detect smaller groups of people, who knows why, they are aliens

if they explain it sometime great, if not...meh, they should mention it again or its a large plothole.

this is the premiere, they have to lay out some plot, and leave some for later to 'keep suspense' apparantly

I know that their idea of "limited commercial interruption" and mine are entirely different. Every 10 minutes - not so "limited."

yeah but they were shorter breaks, I kept having to go back cuz it was liek 2 minutes and Im used to 3-4 min breaks, so I hit skip 30 sec 6 times and bam into the show.

Most of the emotional/romance stuff in the pilot seemed to be recycled from any number of other shows:

I would suggest to anyone who hasnt seen it yet, to skip the 'scenes from the next' garbage, they hinted at a TON of the season and plot line in it, I was alittle annoyed at how much it gave away

eh, still not as bad as the new Battle Star Galactica series, where the opening credits for each episode show you everything that is about to happen in that episode.

They did explain this. The aliens are eliminating humans. They are basically doing large populations first. They started with cities. This is why they split up into smaller groups when retreating. If they are only going after groups of 250 now, they should split up into groups of 125 and retreat.

Not sure what the attraction to flares is.

yeah, my only question is how they can openly travel during the day so easily, group size withstanding. they seem very exposed, as close as they are to that base, with ships traveling all over.

Then, they make their raids during the night. it doesn't make much sense.

though, if they are inactive during the day (we have seen them moving prisoners in their mechs during the day :hmm, I guess it would make sense to move your civilians then, during the least amount of threat. If you have to divide your time protecting them and organizing military actions, you probably have to opt for keeping the civilians safe, then making attacks and raids when it is most dangerous.

You have to suspend disbelief for these kinds of shows to some extent, but big, obvious inconsistencies are a little hard to swallow. They're asking me to believe that the aliens can detect a single flare from miles away and dispatch a fighter to bomb the area, but they can't detect the heat and light signatures of the campfires of hundreds of people? And they can't detect "small" groups of 300 people walking around in the middle of major highways in broad daylight? Seriously? It is one thing if this resistance was up in a remote mountain camp or in the sewers or something like that, but these guys are literally moving around just outside of Boston.

And for those arguing that maybe the aliens only come out at night -- OK, let's assume that's the case. What about their mechs?

No, what is "tired" is the fact that shows keep using the same formulaic approach to character development along with uninteresting, cliched dialogue. Sure, you expect there to be a love interest in the show but in the case of this show, you can spot the subplots miles away. And what is with the constant need to insert whiny teenage kids in every show? They don't add anything and are often among the most derided and criticized elements of the shows to which they belong.

This. I'll give it another shot but the premiere made V's premiere look like Citizen Kane.

I hope they will and I hope they don't use the approach V tried to use of dragging it out week after week until people finally get fed up and stop watching.

Watched the first episode with the wife. Or at least the first ten minutes, she wasn't in to it.
Watched the rest of it the next day by myself. Pretty meh but I'll give it a chance.

they just abandoned the blonde girl that got taken away by the Skitters and nobody really batted a lash. It was like, "Oh, she isn't one of Tom's kids. F' her." Hope they pick up on something with her in the next episode. Otherwise, that was stupid.

I have to say, the series bought itself some time with me. I liked last night's episode. I thought the acting was much better and I liked the story line. But I have a question for others:

No, it wasn't. Or else I wouldn't have had to ask. What happened in the scene was obvious. I just didn't understand the hand gesture part. It seemed unnecesary so I thuoght there was more to it. And the alien pointed at him, not gesturing the number 1 which would have been more obvious.

I find it interesting that:

Dr. Harris called the aliens "our conquerors" in a strange tone of voice and he seemed to not be entirely truthful or honest about what happened to Noah Wyle's wife. I think his knowledge of the harness might not have been something he just learned on his own. Maybe I'm wrong, but he was acting very, very strange.
