Falling asleep in contacts

I hate bloody falling asleep in my contacts. I swear it's like I lose an entire day because I'm completely unproductive for the rest of the day afterwards. My brother says it's because the lenses don't let in any oxygen at night and that I should get some Night and Day contacts:

Night and Day

They're advertised to let in 6x more oxygen. Has anyone used these with success. I doubt I'd sleep with these every night. In fact, I know I wouldn't, but the 4 or 5 times a month I fall asleep in my contacts, atleast I'd wake up and not look like a zombie.

I've had my contacts in for over a month. Doesn't do any bad to me, just a little dry eyed when I wake up. Its not like your eyes dont get oxygen from your blood. I probably shouldnt do it any way though.

I sleep with them in every night. my current pair are disposables, yet they've been in my eyes for 3+ months straight (have yet to take them out, even once). I just wake up, squirt the overnight solution in my eyes, and get the day started.

No, I don't think the eyes get much oxygen from the blood. I've heard that a complication of consistently wearing contacts for too long can result in blood vessels forming on your eye, which can cause vision problems. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Hmm, I have no idea. I just thought it wasnt too big of a deal. There are just two things I hate doing, taking care of my contacts, and flossing.

My girlfriend had a free sample pair of the Nigh and Day and didn't like them a bit, she threw them away after 2 days of use.

Your cornea does not have any blood supply, it gets 100% of its oxygen supply from the air.

If you leave your contacts in long enough (and they are sufficiently non permeable) your cornea will give up & make its own blood supply. Yes, your cornea will have nifty red blood vessels running through it.

Taking a nap with contacts in or forgetting to take them out for one night isn't going to cause a huge problem (though my eyes hurt like hell after even an extended nap with contacts in), but prolonged abuse may result in neovascularization.

Extended wear of soft contacts is also a good way to end up with GPC.

Soft contacts (what 99% of the population wears) are much worse for your eyes than RGPs (Rigid Gas Permeables), they transfer significantly less oxygen.

Take care of your eyes folks. Take your contacts out at night, give your cornea a chance to breathe.

I know some kid who wore them for 3 months straight, they were the kind you are supposed to take out every night.

EDIT. ... may have been 3 weeks, so I was told

I have never slept the whole night wearing contacts. Hate to even take a nap with then on, my eyes get super red and have a weird, almost slimey feeling.

Mine are the same way, I take them out if I intend to sleep at all. I absolutely will not wear them through the night.

Contacts are a huge hassle, if glasses would correct my vision I would choose them in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I'm stuck with contacts.

People who choose contacts over glasses for cosmetic reasons & then try to eliminate the hassle by leaving them in all the time are just asking to fvck up their eyes.

I just want to reach out and cyber bitch-slap all of them.

Luckily there are lots of people out there who have good corneas, so when the time comes for my transplants there will be donors.

i was come 30-day contact made my focus. They breathe very good, and are good enough to take long naps in, but i would never ever sleep in contacts, there is just no way.

My optimologist said contacts aren't to the point where its 100% healthy for your eyes to be sleeping with any contacts in. And after having glasses since i as 7, i finnally jumped on the contact bandwagon. i couldn't stand glasses, i can enjoy a ton of things now, paintball, motorcycle'n, sports, etc etc. with glasses, its much harder to play sports, you glasses + vision bounce all around, and your glasses get beat to hell.

edit: grammar + spelling, live with it, im tired.

Yeah, seriously. I don't take very good care of my body, but you bet I take care of my eyes...they are much more sensitive, and harder to fix.

I've actually heard that if you wear the day only contacts at night your eyes don't get any oxygen so they make themselves arteries/veins (whihc means your eyes look ugly as sh!t with red and blue lines in them).

Arteries form to bypass a constriction or cloggage....so your eyes can look all nasty

ViperGTS is right, you can sustain permenant corneal damage. Sleeping in contacts is just too uncomfortable for me anyway. You may try gas permeable lenses (expensive) or just quit being stupid.
I even try to remove my lenses on those 'drunken want-to-pass-out' days and feel the next day that
I had pinched my eyes too hard when removing them causing some pain.

Always try to reduce strain on your eyes.
