So ... What's playing? My viewing card is pretty light these days. What's good? Old, new, unique, doesn't matter.

Right now, I have the following lined up:

The Last Man on Earth.
Season 3, began on the 25th. Still serviceable, lightweight comedy.

Bob's Burgers
Season 7 just began on the 25th. Never disappoints. Love this toon.

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown
Also just began a new season on the 25th. One of the best shows on TV, IMO.

Quarry
On Cinemax. Three episodes out of eight have aired. Period piece about a Vietnam vet set in the early 70s. So far, so good.

Longmire
Season 5 was released on Netflix on September 23rd. 10 episodes.

Transparent

Season 3, 10 episodes, was released on Amazon on September 23rd.

Gold Rush

Season 7 begins October 14th.

Has anyone seen a premier date for season 3 of Black Jesus? Love that show. How about Fargo?

I highly recommend Teen Wolf to anyone who is a fan of Buffy, by the way. I get the feeling the name and the network it's on - MTV - gave people the impression it's some kind of cheesy revival or take on the 80s movies, but it has nothing to do with the movies other than one or two casual references or nods late in the series.

Teen Wolf doesn't have the Whedon-isms of Buffy - no musical episodes, for instance - but it does feature similar character types here and there, with the mostly serious supernatural-meets-teen drama being interspersed with humor (primarily from one of the main characters, Stiles, who is played by Dylan O'Brien). It's closer in style to The Vampire Diaries, but The Vampire Diaries is more derivative of other vampire fiction (Teen Wolf is primarily werewolves... won't spoil it by saying more) than Teen Wolf is of werewolf lore - and I much prefer the writing and characters of Teen Wolf to The Vampire Diaries, which I gave up on a season or two ago.

Also worth noting: Teen Wolf probably has the best combination of soundtrack (or at least a soundtrack comprised of new music; it's fairly easy to make a good soundtrack from past hits, in my opinion) and score of any TV show I've seen. Granted, you have to like current music (a lot of EDM like dubstep and trap, plus plenty of pop tracks from up-and-coming, lesser known artists), but I can't recall any other show where I'm literally adding 3/4 songs from the show to my playlists. The score (composer Dino Meneghin) is also excellent. It does feature a lot of EDM-style beats (which I like) for the intro and action scenes, but there's also a ton of the requisite thriller/drama tension-building pieces throughout. The intro theme does a good job of encapsulating the styles of the score, so if you like it chances are you'll enjoy the entirety of the score.

I do think the show takes a dip during its run due to losing some characters or actors leaving the show, but it's still good and enough to keep me excited for the upcoming season.

I follow very little but expect to watch:
The Walking Dead
The Goldbergs
Westworld
Parts Unknown
NHL games <-- the only thing I'll watch live

I may or may not be forced to watch Friends 2.0 (What The Big Bang Theory has become) if my wife watches it live and not on PVR.

Watched the trailer for the second season last night. Looks just as good as the first. :grinning:

I'm also going to try out Haley Atwell's new show Conviction. And Versailles.

Added Westworld to my list after reading this. Never saw the original movie, even though I'm a fan of Michael Crichton's novels.

Glad to see Ramin Djawadi is the composer. He is one of my favorite composers going back to Prison Break, and I pretty much love everything he's done since and for movies and games, too. Bear McCreary and he are probably the best television score composers.

I just got a 4K/UHD TV, so I hope there's a 4K offering of Westworld from HBO. Looks like an ideal show to view in 4K.
