Falcon 360s hitting retail?

Xbox 360 Fanboy has a bunch of links to information stating that Falcon chips are beginning to make their way into retail.

Tech nuts the world over have been waiting for the new 65nm Xbox 360 "Falcon" CPUs for a while and word on the street is that they're finally being rolled out to retail.

According to various reports and photo evidence over on the Xbox.com forums, new Halo 3 Xbox 360 consoles with lot numbers #734 have been confirmed to have the newly new 65nm CPUs in them. So, if the Halo 3 360s are a predictor of things to come, hopefully we'll be seeing 65nm technology in all Xbox 360s hitting store shelves soon. Lots more information and a guide to tell if your Xbox 360 has Falcon technology can be read over on the Xbox.com forums via the links below. You're free now ... fly Falcon, fly!

That's good to hear, as I was thinking of getting a 360.

How do you know what lot you're getting? Is it on the side of the box?

There's a flap on the back of the box that let's you see inside so you can see the serial number, manufacturing date, and everything else on the back of the 360. The lot number is there as well.

I went 360 shopping this weekend and looked at a bunch of systems. Say a ton that were made on 6/30 and a couple on 7/15. Nothing later, though, so I'm waiting a little bit longer.

The lot number is also on a sticker on the side of the box. For example, mine says LOT# 0634, it's the one I purchased in October of last year (that's already been sent back). I'm still considering selling mine and picking a new one up, mainly because of the HDMI, but I might as well get one of the new Falcon boards.

And just to clarify....only the CPU is getting the die-shrink. The GPU (the problem child in the 360) is still at 90nm.

According to Xbox-Scene, the X-clamps on the GPU have finally gotten upgraded, though. Judging from the description, there's a pretty good chance that this revision might be considerably more reliable than the previous ones.

(I'm still on my November 05 console, though.)

Xbox-Scene link - They've even got pictures of an Elite and a Halo edition displaying the difference in power usage.

Same here..

Elites and Premiums were at 725-ish.. H3 consoles were at 733..

I'm thinking about replacing my existing Premium with an Elite once I can find a confirmed Falcon.

So are there still Halo editions in stores? I should be getting a 360 within the next few weeks when I get back to the states.

There were two Halo 360s at the BB I stopped at last night, and that was all they had, no premiums or elites. If that's the model you want, you might be better able to find that one right now.

The BB I went to on Saturday had an entire pallet of Halo 360's sitting out, and a display of about 20 elites and 20 premiums.

I am going to be purchasing a Falcon as soon as I find one and I will be selling my old unit on ebay. I have a couple questions for you 360 gurus though.

1. How do I reset everything on my 360 back to default as well as erase the hard drive for when I sell it?

2. If I purchase a new 360, am I able to retain all of the downloaded arcade games that I have purchased? If so, how does that work?

I cant see the links in the OP at work. Do any of them show a disassembled view of exactly what changed ?

To format the Xbox 360 Hard Drive, follow these steps:
1. Start the Xbox 360 console without a disc in the disc tray.
2. In the System section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard, select Memory to view the Storage Devices area.
3. In the Storage Devices area, select Hard Drive if you want to format the hard drive or other storage device, and then press the Y button on the Xbox 360 Controller or the remote control to view the Device Options area.
4. In the Device Options area, select Format. You receive the following message:
This will delete all content on this device. Do you want to continue?
5. To format the drive, select Yes.

2. If I purchase a new 360, am I able to retain all of the downloaded arcade games that I have purchased? If so, how does that work?

Yes. All arcade purchases are tied to two things. The console they were downloaded on and the gamertag that purchased them. As long as you are logged into your gamertag, you'll be able to play the arcade games you've purchased.

I'm a little confused... i've read a couple threads on this and followed the posted links, etc, but I'm still not clear. Are the Falcons in ANY xbox with lot 734+ or only Halo Xbox's of that lot? I am buying an xbox very soon... probably the Premium, but maybe the elite. I don't really want the Halo version. But I do want to buy one with the Falcon board of course. Can I look for elites/premiums with that lot number, or does this all only apply to Halo version Xbox's?

It looks like it's just the $400 Halo version of the 360 which is just a $350 Premium with a $50 paint job, right? I haven't found anyone that's gotten a non-Halo 360 yet.

I'm getting really anxious. Outside of a Wii, I haven't bought a newer game system. I might go out tonight and look for a Falcon.

I'm planning on buying an elite or premium by the end of October... I *really* hope they will be shipping with the Falcon in that time period :

I'd say now is a good time to get a 360. With the 65nm CPU and apparently stronger x-clamp fixtures (which seem to be very secure unlike the originals), it should be much more reliable.

Plus, if you don't manage to get a "falcon", you have the 3 year warranty on it...I'd bet their replacement units will probably incorporate the new design features in some way.
