When I see someone with a CIB with two stars (to the uninitiated that means the third award of the CIB) that individual has just emblazoned themselves as a target for the veteran community. They're a fucking chew toy.

A single award of the CIB is given for the era in which it was earned.

1st era: 7 December 1941 - 3 September 1945
2nd era: 27 June 1950 - 27 July 1953
3rd era: 2 March 1961 - 10 March 1995
4th era: 18 September 2011 to a date to be determined

The dude just assumed that the general population wouldn't realize that he's claiming to be a veteran of the Korean War. That he's claiming in front of God and everyone that he was recognized by his country for these awards. I can't think of an analogy as offensive to civilian population. Maybe think of him as some guy claiming to be formative of the civil rights movement with MLK. It's absurd on it's face. Now have Al Sharpton or someone from the New Black Panthers meet him. Words will be exchanged, at least.

The person conducting the ass chewing isn't an exception or an asshole. He's doing fine. I've seen worse from someone having their hands in their pocket or forgetting to salute an officer because they were on their cell phone. Getting inside someones personal space with a knife hand and ranting at them with invectives and spittle is an art. It can be inspirational if done well.

I don't think that's the right interpretation of the criteria, you can get one for Iraq, one for Afghanistan, one for Somalia, etc:

War/Conflict/Operation Qualifying Period
1st Qualifying Era
World War II 7 December 1941 - 3 September 1945
2nd Qualifying Era
Korean Conflict 27 June 1950 - 27 July 1953
3rd Qualifying Era
Republic of Vietnam Conflict (qualifying service in Laos) 2 March 1961 - 10 March 1995 (19 April 1961 to 6 October 1962)
Dominican Republic 28 April 1965 to 1 September 1966
Korea on the DMZ 4 January 1969 to 31 March 1994
El Salvador 1 January 1981 to 1 February 1992
Grenada 23 October to 21 November 1983
Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, Korea 23 November 1984
Panama 20 December 1989 to 31 January 1990
Southwest Asia Conflict 17 January to 11 April 1991
Somalia 5 June 1992 to 31 March 1994
4th Qualifying Era
Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) 5 December 2001 to a date to be determined.
Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn) 19 March 2003 to 31 December 2011

Basically dude is way too young to have more than 2.

OK...this sent me down a "false valor" youtube rabbit hole.

I had no idea people did this shit. What kind of coward would claim to have served their country when they haven't? I've never served and I still wanted to beat every single one of them to a pulp.

The same people who make false claim to being cops, firefighters, pilot, banker, indian chief, etc. Bunch of losers who want to be anything other than what they are. Mix them with douchebags all too willing to play inspector general in front of the camera and public and presto: youtube videos.

I still use my BDU's to tromp around in the woods, guess I should strip the insignia's off the shoulders. Lazy i guess, nobody has ever said a word about it, not even park rangers whom I know were vets. Never gave it much thought till now.

As for the discounts for vets..... they can take them and shove it. I don't want your handouts and I know plenty of brothers and sisters in arms who get embarrased by it. They do not susbscribe to the free shit army mentality. Make it a discount for nicest military costume so the posers can play dress up. We'll all come out and watch the parade, wave a flag, and sing kumbaya.

I have a really hard time with people like you. I want to show my gratitude for your service but I don't want to offend. The only thing I have thought of is giving to Wounded Warrior, so I do that.

That being said, thanks for protecting my ass. Its appreciated.

How can you tell who is fake in the OP vid?

As a rule, active military are not allowed to get that fat. That size uniform is supposed to be for the handful of Stallone type soldiers currently serving. (generally speaking most people on active duty dont have the free time required to be true body builders).

In particular, army rangers NEVER get that heavy. if they do they are taken off assignment until they can lose the weight or they get booted out.
dude was clearly a fake.

I don't understand why people think there is valor to be stolen in the first place. Being in the United States military is something to be ashamed of. It is such a colossal waste of tax payer money. Being in the military is opt in, but paying for it is not.

I don't know that records of special forces are easily searched up like that.

http://www.rollofhonor.org/ is a self registration site many are on and some will facebook/social media join the group of their squad after service.

One of the key things a special forces guy told me (my fiancees ex claimed to be both SEAL and RANGER, he was both in the Navy and Army but in reality was only an E4 quartermaster when he was finally done), is special force guys don't really like special forces type games.

They have seen real combat and it's not entertaining to them. Most of these 'fake' special force types are constantly talking Call of Duty, Black Ops, etc. They love to tell the stories of killing people (another thing most special force or even combat soldiers really don't like to talk about).

My sister is married to a career solider, hes been active military for at least 15 years (I don't recall exactly but he's near retirement) and the guy is OBSESSED with FPS games and killing. Owns lots of guns and plans to open a gun store when he retires so he can talk about guns and killing.

Can't say I'm entirely fond of the guy...but he's family.

Best way to show gratitude would be to make a donation to Toys for Tots. For those who served, it was a job and we got paid so no special reaso to thank us, just please don't be a dick to us even if you disagreed with the conflicts we may have been required to fight in.

Please see avatar.

You served our country, you didn't do anything the country didn't ask you to do.

Well except for that hooker in Baghdad...

Wondering if I should share his name on the internet...I have a feeling that could cause some issues. I have the impression that he is very short, argumentative, and quick to temper. He really is a dude you don't want to mess with.

I am a disabled vet, yet I saw no need in busting on this dude, he is too heavy to be an active ranger.
Let the man play make believe, who is he hurting? He could be burning the flag, burning down the town, looting, rapping, killing someone.
But no he is just playing dress up.

He wasnt JUST playing dress up.
He lied left and right about who he was and what he did.

I am a disabled vet, and this guy bugs me.

I don't know, he is married to my sister and they have a kid...so I would assume no. But I suppose there's a chance he could be. I have to admit I don't know the guy that well. As I said he is argumentative and quick to anger, and I'm pretty bad at socializing...so any time we do talk it quickly turns into a fight and he gets angry and I have to leave.

He is getting benefits and discounts not entitled to him. he is scamming the system. Is that fair?

You let one go then more will follow him because they will not fear the consequences.

If the stores give him a discount just because he dresses up, shame on them. I am asked each and every time for proof, I show my va medical Id, which is what the va hospital issues all veterans.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, have a good evening all.

It fucking pisses me off to see anyone in cammies in public. No matter if they are real or not. Attention whores in my opinion. REALLY pisses me off. Especially if they're a fat fucking piece of trash.
