fake orbs

I just got my shipment from ATIC computers in B.C., where I bought a new HDD, CPU, RAM, and a golden orb for my new socket 370. To my dismay (and severe disgruntled-ness, I tell you what), my fan wasn't a golden orb at all! I think the name on the box was KWA or KWI, something like that. It sure looks like a golden orb, maybe a little bigger, and I'm worried about it bumping into that big clump of transistors near the chip on the CUSL2 board(haven't installed yet). Anyway, has anyone heard about the performance of these mock-orbs? I know ThermalTake has a popup alert on their website about it, but they're not about to come out and say that these fakes are garbage. If anyone knows what they're like, let me know. Should I plug it in and see how it does, or should I stick with the standard intel fan? Undecided about OC'ing.

stupid ATIC Computers, I just can't wait to see what my stick of RAM is like, which is SUPPOSED to be Micron PC133.

I've read they don't cool as well, don't remeber where though. Return it and order a real one from 2CoolTek or Plycon. And if the memory isn't what you payed for return that too. If they've been deceptive give them a bad review at reseller ratings.

HardOCP has a link to a Copper Orb ripoff which performed really poorly. It's liked directly off their main page.

Inflow Direct is another good place for Orbs. I think they were cheaper than the more popular overclocker stores. They've also got a few more kinds of Orbs - you may want to look into the FC370-2 (I think that's the model #) - the second version of the Golden Orb. It's got a slightly smaller diameter to fit better on more motherboards, and the fan runs at a higher rpm. it is louder because of this. The S370 clip has been redesigned as well: this one has an actual clip, not the unique twisting thing which has scared so many people..

I think it may work a little better. I'm surprised that nobody's done a review; they all just kind of did the blue orb, super orb thing and haven't looked at the other orbs (i'd like to see how the low-profile orb performs. probably the only viable orbage for a lot of SMP people..)
