Just wondering.

I sometimes put up a real tree but also have a decent fake one that we'll use if we don't feel like spending the time and/or trouble getting a real one.

Just bought an artifical from Home Depot. Pre-lit trees FTW!

Not a bad looking tree for $150

One small factor for us is that the cats will always eat the needles from the tree and throw them up all over the damn place and theres nothing that can be done to stop them from doing this.

Fake simply for the reason that I find that hacking down something that has been growing for 10 years simply to use it for 2-4 weeks year after year after year is rather wasteful.

Fake trees FTL

Always funny hearing someone swear that you can't tell their fake tree is actually fake. Even better are the ones with fake trees who burn the real tree-scented candles to compensate...lol You just can't duplicate the smell or feel of a live Christmas tree.

I'd get a fake, but they all have those pipe-cleaner needles on the inside, even the expensive ones. I'd rather go through the whole ceremony of picking out a tree and hauling it home and hassling with getting it in the stand and lined up than wince every time I passed an artificial one.

I have no place for a tree in my apartment, but my parents get real tree, but it's getting harder and harder to find one for a decent price.

Growing up, there was one Christmas tree farm we'd ALWAYS go to. Their trees were cut that day and priced pretty fairly. When I was a freshman in college, the guy who owned the farm died and none of his kids wanted the farm, so they sold the land and built houses there.

We set out trying to find a replacement tree farm. The first year, we went to this place that had lots of trees, but they were small. I could carry the tree with one hand they were so small. Since then, we've found a local guy who has a lot with trees on it, but they're not really groomed or anything, and as soon as they're gone, that's it. He's pretty reasonable, $25 for a tree, which is unheard of considering he's got some 10-12 foot monster trees for the same price.

So every year, a couple weeks before Christmas, I drive out to my Mom and Dad's house and help them pick out a tree. I cut it down, take it home, and set it up for them.

When they're gone at that place, they'll have to start getting them from Lowes or something. The only other Christmas tree farm around here has stuff like carriage rides/other entertainment, so you pay quite a bit for a tree.

Because it's just a symbol.

I didn't say "real tree because baby jesus commanded a real tree" did I?
no sh!t its a symbol. Why can't that symbol be fresh?

Always real, and we always go to a tree farm and cut our own.

Christmas trees are grown on farms, solely for the purpose of being hacked down to use a few weeks each year. It's not like the dealers are walking through a national forest and taking down thousands of trees.

You can come hug my Fraser Fir though if it makes you feel better. :p
