I was at my local liquor store browsing tasty beer when I hear a commotion in the front of the store.

The exchange basically went like this
Clerk: You have to be f'n kidding me, what the f.
Scumbag <buying a 6 pack of cheap beer>:???
C: Do you really expect me to take this?
C: Its the face has pixels on it, this doesn't even look close to real
Sb: ???
C: You know that counterfeiting is a federal crime, Get the F out of here
Sb: Can I have my $20 back?
C: F you, you are banned for life, get out before I call the cops.
Sb: <leaves>

As I am checking out I get the opportunity to see the bill and it looks like it was printed on a crappy laser printer, the paper is way to smooth and yeah Andrew Jackson's face is pixelated horribly. The clerk was on the phone w/ the cops telling them that the guy is still hanging out outside the store.

I was walking out wondering how far you have to sink to risk fpmita prison over a six pack of cheap beer.

Well that's my story, how about yours? I know Atot members all make 250k+ and have never lowered themselves to the level of clerk, but maybe you have a brother-in-law who knows a guy w/ a funny fake money story.

When I lived in Vegas there was a store I used to go to that posted the money.

They would put the money up on the wall, stapled to the printout of the security cam picture of the person spending it.

The store let me look at one of them and it was a pretty f'ing good looking bill.

McDonald's gave me a fake penny as part of my change once. That's the only fake money story I have.

My dad sold something to a guy once who paid him in $100 bills and one of them was a fake. His solution, go to Wal-Mart and use it. Luckily they did not check the bill.

When I was much younger, we printed out 1 dollar bills on a high quality inkjet printer, they looked real. We tried to use them in a vending machine, and it wouldn't take them.

I had a couple try to hand me a fake $10 bill when I worked at a movie theater once. As soon as I started checking for the strip within the bill they quickly whipped out their one's and asked for the 10 back. I could have been a dick and made a big deal of it, but I was in a hurry and didn't really care.

When I was working in a grocery store as a cashier, this couple gave me a $50 bill to pay for their goods, but it was clearly fake. In addition to that, it was missing the security strip and had no watermark. It looked like a combination of the old 50s, where there is a circle around the head of the president and the new 50s where they have red white and blue dye on the bill. I called for a manager and they took the bill and then gave the couple a form for their taxes.

I've worked in a cash office before and they come back every couple of weeks to us. We simply deposit them and let the bank handle it.

When I was a kid I use to rip the security strips out of the bills just for fun. I guess that wasn't the smartest idea.

Your dad got paid in cash? Why???

Cash is not business friendly at all.

Take a wild guess at why he was dealing with cash. I'll give you a hint. You can get fined or go to jail for what his uncle probably intended to do.

I didn't know you could get fined for contract killing!

When I was outside the main lobby for my school, some scrubby looking guy ran up to me, rolled up one of his sweat pants legs, and pulled out a wad of bills about 4" thick. He asked me if I had change for a 50 and held out the money which looked real enough. I told him I didn't so he went over to one of the food trucks on the street and started changing his money there. I assume he was either counterfeiting or laundering.

Maybe...

My uncle on the other hand will only work with cash. He doesn't trust banks, or checks, and doesn't believe in credit.

What does your uncle do though?

There's a difference between being burnt on a $100 sale with counterfeit bills and taking a risk on a $10,000 contsruction job.

Typically, if cash is being exchanged when it comes to contractors, it's on work that's being done under the table.

Maybe he wanted just a little bit of crack and the dealer couldn't break the bill?

Seriously. I worked retail for 7 years and I don't remember a single bill that was clearly fake. Granted I was working at 7-Elevens and Subways (two of each), so I wasn't dealing with large quantities of money.

I did have some people try to return medicine that they had stolen from other stores.

Strangest thing I ever saw in retail was a forged credit card. I figured people only stole them, not attempt to counterfeit one. They made an impressive, and wholly inadequate attempt at replicating the Mastercard watermark thing. The guy was stupid enough to stick around while I called it in, though he took off in short order after we told him we have to confiscate the card.
