So these idiots gave my poor trusting naive wife a mild stroke earlier today.
Same ole crap, IRS has warrant for your arrest, etc, etc.

If you have long distance free and want to yell at someone today,
please be my guest... 202-470-3522

I hate these scum so much.
I plan to call them every hour, on the hour, till the number no longer works.

Sent the ole lady a couple links to educate up.
It's been years now since I'd even return a call from a number
I don't know without google'ing it.

Man i need to start recording my phone calls i have with these people i guess.
The last guy i told i would give the cops the gold bricks i have in my basement when they showed up and asked him if that would be ok as a payment type?
I actually think they are kind of funny, simply because they try and be super pushy on the phone.

Join the club.

IRS does *nothing* to stop them, they also change numbers weekly it seems.

Nomorobo can't block them because they spoof with a number longer than 10 digits.

The attempted scam is so over-the-top pushy it's hard to believe how many people fall for it. The sheriff is coming to arrest you in an hour? You are supposed to pay with prepaid debit cards? I'm not sure what is more likely - the fear of the IRS is so ingrained in people that they cannot logically process what's happening and see it for the obvious scam it is, or that the people who got suckered ARE tax cheats and believe they just got caught.

And just last week yet another local person got suckered (it was on the news).

About a year ago my aunt got a panicked call from her father in law. He had gotten a call from his grandson (her son, my cousin) telling him that he was stuck in jail in Mexico and desperately needed thousands of dollars to get bailed out. My aunt checked that my cousin was indeed still in Michigan, and then told her FIL that it was just a scam.

I work for a large CPA firm. Dealt with 2 different client this week and these stupid phone calls. I called one and it almost fooled me. Some of these people are good.

The new scam is calling business owners and getting the payroll information.

Then they use that information to file fake returns on people. In the past case they already had the person's social and full name.

Crazy how bad this is getting...

Yet another reason to nuke our tax code and start from scratch - without the IRS.

Do you think before you type? Exactly how will eliminating the IRS wipe scammers out? I got the same sort of call several times a day claiming to be a marshal ready to serve lawsuit papers on me that day unless I contacted them immediately. If I didn't know better I would have been buffaloed by that call.

The ability to make long distance calls nearly for free has really enabled this sort of scammer.

IRS has a warrant? Bwahahahaaha. Last I checked, the IRS doesn't issue warrants.... It collects taxes. It's like saying the pizza delivery man is going to arrest you. It makes no sense.

Personally, I haven't heard of this shit before. What information were they asking for?

"One team of con artists spoke with Patricia Bowles, the owner of a Virginia modeling studio, almost every day for more than a month. Eventually, they had persuaded her to send more than $300,000 through Western Union and Moneygram in what she thought were luxury taxes and insurance fees on the $1.1 million prize they promised would be arriving any day."

LOL. Woman who scams young women gets scammed.

now that tax season is over, its now County Sheriff calling you scams. The local police sent out an email saying don't be an idiot, they would never call you asking for money, they would just come and arrest you haha.

A few years ago, some scammers called one of my grandmothers and acted like they were either me or my other male cousin and said that "this is your grandson, i'm in jail right now and need bail money". She didn't fall for it, because she knows neither of us call her and tell her "this is your grandson".

My house recently got calls from some foreign accented individuals claiming to be Microsoft support and offering to "help" us with our Windows pc. They start off by asking if you're the pc's owner. I guess you're supposed to blindly accept this unsolicited call, go online, and click everything you're told to click.

The one time I got to answer, I asked them why they were calling because I never contacted them. The guy said "Ok, goodbye."

Haven't had any calls threatening arrest, but have received emails telling me to appear in court, "see attached summons."
