in asia, it's pretty common practice to cover buildings under construction with digitized tarp because the weather is so humid and rainy, and it is a convenient way to advertise the building before it is done. nothing fake about this at all, it's called a preview. but yet, some naive American has turned this practice into some anti-chinese chest thumping orgy.

Hell, when I was in Berlin back in 01, the Brandenburg gate was masked by a large vinyl sheet with an image of....the Brandenburg Gate. Nothing new here. at least it looks better than scaffolding and big orange construction fences.

Interesting. I've never seen anything like that. I don't see a problem with it. It makes sense, especially for a tourist area or if your city is hosting a big international event like the Olympics.

Well, China isn't a place I'll be going unless I really have to. Pig is the #1 meat in the country and a Taiwanese friend there complains that the butchers fill the pigs with sewage water to make it fatter. Worse, she says people love to spit and stare as well. With manners like that I can't imagine hygiene being the best.

And you're saying this as if Americans don't spit and stare? Let's be real now.

I could not possibly care less. They cover up ugly construction. Good. I went to Vancouver BC a few years ago expecting to see one of the prettiest cities in the world (as everyone says it is). With all the construction, the best comparison I could make to my friends was Beirut in 1988. It was ugly as hell. They should have covered it up.

I think what I'm trying to say is that Canada is an utter failure compared to China.

Damn, people are a bit sensitive regarding China. I've never been to China proper but I've been in Hong Kong. Chinese etiquette is just as bad there. People throw all kinds of things out of their apartments onto the streets below. When I was there somebody was nearly killed because some whore decided to get rid of her referigerator the dumb way by chucking it out her high-rise patio.

but its big bad china. these americans need to find anything to complain about!

the tinfoil hat wearing nutjobs don't have any proof against the chinese gymanstics team, so they find something ridiculous as a cover for a building, which just happens to be used all around the world LOL

Yeah that's right...America BAD!! China GOOD!!

What is the big deal, this happens in a lot of places. Currently the Hudson Bay Centre is covered up (on the south side) with a giant vinyl print of what it would look like afterwards. Find something real to bitch about.
