Fainting during Blood Tests

I'm not afraid of needles or the thought that they draw blood. But this morning, they had to take 4 samples of blood and I totally just fainted while they were taking blood. I had been fasting like they had told me. Its slightly embarrasing. 🙁

Anyone have any tips on how to prevent this?

*I'm fainting because of the blood loss I think. Not the sight of it.*

You're not alone

I passed out once from cutting my lip during shaving

I passed out once when I gave bloood. I saw them doing it. They did one tube and I was like okay whew, another one (bigger), another one.. passed out.

Tip: Don't look.

wuss...

not like I am one to speak though, I'm so weak at stuff like that. Never donated blood because Im afraid I would faint. Plus being a skinny guy, weighing not all that much. . . I dont want to lose too much damn blood.

Although I have thought about donating blood plasma. . . as you get compensated. . . w/ money ofcourse! CHA CHING!

To add something worth while to the post, if they tell you to fast before the bloodtest you can't have any food or sugar including OJ because it will fvck the test up and make it worthless.

I never ever had a problem with blood before.

Then many years ago (maybe 8?) I was checking out yard sales with my mom, picking stuff up and looking at it, etc. After one stop, we went back to the car, and I noticed that there was blood on my thumb. It didn't feel like I was cut, or that it was much. So I went to suck it off. It was until after I sucked, that I realized it was a whole glob of blood, which was now in my mouth and I had no choice but to swallow because I was in the car. Yuck. So then at our next stop, I get out and as I'm crossing the road, my vision went completely negative, and then black and white and tunneled - I turned around and stumbled back to the car just barely, and laid down in the back seat. It was the weirdest experience I ever had - I think my body must have gone into shock and started pooling blood towards the center, and my eyes were left without a blood supply.

Ever since then, blood makes me nauseus and dizzy. Aside from my blood phobia, I also have a problem with needles.

You are NOT fainting because of the blood loss. It's entirely in your head. The human body has about 5 liters of blood. They're taking, what, 4 test tubes full? Not even half a pint.

i get really woozy/go into mild shock when my blood is drawn, that is just the way it is. i don't think you can change it

I'm OK as long as I don't look. That's either giving blood or having blood taken. The strange thing is I can look at someone else's blood no problem.

i think when you donate blood they take a pint? i'm not sure : the fluid loss isn't significant, but the red blood cell loss is more so.
for blood test it's even less i think.

anyway : the sight of it doesn't make me whoozy, but the feeling is wierd for sure. I dontated blood, then went out and had PE right after in high school 😛 I did sit there and enjoy some orange juice and cookies.

i dont think juice violates most fasting unless you've been specifically told to avoid a) the juice or b) the content of juice. The sugar will help you out i think.

it's happened to me in the past. I just ask if I can lie down when they take the blood.

Yea. I don't watch them doing it. Its the craziest feeling. I just kinda keeled over in the chair.

you cal clench your fists, and look away. also, ask to lie down on the doctor's bench before they take the blood.

Congratulations. Your ability to use both metric and english measurements in the same sentence and describing the same item qualifies you for a job at Nasa where units are meaningless!

Thanks, I always wanted to be a rocket scientist!

I should be an expert by now after being poked for three weeks with needles and IV line changes when i was in the hospital. I don't mind the blood and stuff, but i hate when you get a new nurse and can't find the vein and misses and they have to do it again.

Ever had the I.V. Team come put an I.V. on your arm... that's exciting.

exactly. just lie down when you get a shot or have to give blood that should stop you from fainting.
