I appreciate any suggestions...
I have a brand new chaintech 7NIF2 which I paired with a AMD 2800+ (Barton) CPU. The first time I used it, I powered it up and it got to the POST screen, and I hit DEL to enter BIOS. Then it hung; I wasn't able to navigate the BIOS menu. I shut off and turned on again and then it failed to POST. The power supply appears to work fine, as it is able to power all the fans and the optical drive open/close mechanism. The motherboard will respond to the power on/off button. I have no cards installed (yet) so it isn't a peripheral. The monitor works (I tried it on another system). I am using the built in VGA. I tried altering the memory configuration (I had two sticks of Kingston PC2700, DDR333) and tried one and then the other. I reset the CMOS. I even pulled the motherboard out of the case and disconnected everything except the processor and one stick of memory and the power on switch. When I try powering it on, the case LED's light up and the fans start but nothing else works.
Pretty much at this point, I figure it has to be the motherboard or the CPU. Is it worth buying a $40 Duron to test it out? Any other suggestions to try and diognose the problem?
Thanks,
BC
