Question Failing Power Supply

I have an 8+ year old desktop system that was self built. The Antec 750 W power supply is failing (sounds like a noisy hamster wheel). Given the current state of the market I want to wait to build a new system. I am looking to just replace the power supply for the time being as the computer still meet my basic needs. My question is this, have things changed in the last eight years where I would have problems connecting a new power supply to my 8+ year old system? Sorry if this is too basic a question but it has been awhile.

No. Most any quality power supply should be fine. There may be a few differences...more SATA connectors, maybe a few cables you don't need...to either be tucked out of the way...or just not used if it's all modular.

If you get a modular PSU, just make sure you save all the cables - the current PSU will include cables with it that you won't need now but will need when installing it in a new system in the future.

Definitely. I installed a Corsair HX620 PSU in a build in...2007. Still in use today, 3 builds later. I still have ALL the original cables that I didn't need tucked safely in their pouch...as well as the original box. Over the years, about the only thing that's changed is the need for more SATA power cables than Molex.

PSU are expensive right now. I'd replace the fan to tide me over for a while. If nothing else then it is still useful as a spare PSU.
