Failed Write Delay on new build

new rig in my sig.

ive been getting the failed write delay error almost everytime i am transferring large amounts of data from drive to drive - which i need to do to set things up.

i have tried it at default clockspeed, i have tried it from sata to sata, from new drive to new drive, and from my one old pata to sata.

doesnt matter, i get the error. i disabled the write cache on all drives. still happens.

what the heck is going on? i googled this error and found a ton of stuff about it, but it seems to be mostly from 2005 the latest.

would a fresh reinstall of xp cure this?

ive run checkdisks on all my drives, but i find it very unlikely 3 brand new WD sata drives are all defective - cause they all give the error. ive run orthos and been solidly stable at these speeds, which are nothing crazy. but i also tried transferring the data while at default everything.

sometimes i can do 9 gigs straight no problem. even from another older pata drive i had. i transferred over 35 gigs of music no problem. but then it just happens again and again. my drives arent getting hot, even with everything in my bottom hd cage, but even so, most of the time i was doing this with the doors open just hookin up an older pata without havin to go inside my case. same thing.

also i tried doing a large file sharing transfer on a home network. one big one worked the other failed miserably.

it is beyond bizarro land here.
