Failed Vista Install

So I gave Vista Beta 2 another shot, no dice. It copies files, gets to around 26% expanding files and says it needs to restart. Once it restarts, it loads the background image for Vista install, and then I get a BSOD.

I'm not looking to troubleshoot the install. I did this before, didn't help.

My problem now is that when I start up my computer, I get the boot loader offering me "Vista" (I think it calls it windows rollback or something similar) and 'earlier version of windows', which is my WinXP install. Note that I attempted a custom install, selecting a 2nd hard drive for the Vista install. Anyway, the default selection in the bootloader is the failed Vista install, so if I don't arrow up in 3 seconds, it loads this failed attempt, which ends up being the background image for Vista install and a comand prompt.

Obviously, I don't want this. I have two folders on my main HDD (despite selecting my 2nd drive during set up) called "$WINDOWS.~BT" and "$WINDOWS.~LS". The first one has various subfolders and files, the second only one subfolder with a install.wim file in it.

Clearly these came about during the Vista install. The question is will deleting them get rid of the bootloader during start up, or will I need to do something more then deleting these folders?

Thanks in advance.

A fixmbr under the XP recovery console should restore the Windows XP MBR. Deleting those folders won't erase a boot sector, but it's possible it will erase the boot loader if it exists in those folders. I believe the boot loader is just called 'ntldr' under the root disk.

Will it? I just tried that on my machine, and I've still got the Vista bootloader. I believe that it's actually an exe, but I may be mistaken...

Yeah, it removed grub for me too. But my Vista boot loader is still there...

EDIT: Just read it on neowin.com...
You have to do fixmbr and fixboot from the XP recovery console...confirm both...
