"failed to burn data on disc"

for the life of me i can't figure out why i can't burn data from one cd to another. i'm not sure if it's that my new cd/dvd writer drive isn't compatible with my old cd drive or what. has anyone else had problems burning data from an old cd-rom only drive onto a new writer drive? i'm only running windows ME, maybe that could be it.

i'm about to install xp, so i wanted to get an answer before i completely screw my system up. 😀

anyone got any ideas?

I had this problem with my ne DVD writer. Turned out that I had an ATA 66 iIDE cable working quite well on my CD rom burner, but it could not work with the 16 x DVD R. Look at your cable, make sure it isn't an ATA 66. You'll be wanting an ATA 133.

probably something liek that... its a 4 year old gateway so theres bound to be some old non-compatible hardware
