Glad that the dean took your side. Now, be judicious in your next action.

Potential class move on your part:
1. Go to douchebag prof, say that the situation was unfortunate.
2. DO NOT call prof "douchebag".
3. Say that the course is important, stimulating, and you want to make the remaining course experience as valuable as possible.
4. Ask if you can BOTH put it behind you.
5. Shake hands.
6. Leave.
7. Drink beer...do not think about douchebag.

LOL

I have never used bulleted points in any essay type assignment but if I did and was using someone elses points I wouldn't put quotes around bulleted points, that would look stupid. I think you did fine and I'm glad to see the dean isn't an asshat like your teacher.

Yep, it's very possible to win the battle but lose the war. You might have won this time, but now you'll have to fight her for a passing grade every assignment. She's obviously a bitch to do this when she wasn't pissed at you, imagine what she's capable of now that she is. This is far from over.

Accidental plagiarism is still plagiarism, and the standards in academia are necessarily higher than in 'other' fields. That being said, this was a ridiculous accusation indeed.

great news! Hopefully she'll learn to keep PMS out of grading a paper.

just wondering, is she a PhD holder? Or does she just hold a Masters? And what level psych is this 101, 201, 301 and what's it's emphasis in?

sorry if this has been answered before, but there is no way I'm going to go through this monster thread looking for it.

i bet n00b. Tenured profs stopped caring the day they gained tenure.

reminds me of this:
The juvenile sea squirt wanders through the ocean searching for a suitable
rock or hunk of coral to cling to and make its home for life. When it finds
its spot and takes root, it doesn't need its brain any more, so it eats it.
It's rather like getting tenure.

Yeah, if it's not too late, it would be in your best interest to drop the course and take the course with a different prof next semester. You won this battle but the semester isn't over. Since your prof was basically slammed by the dean, I would expect her to be especially harsh on grading your future assignments/papers.

Glad to hear that you encountered a sane person as you went up the ladder!

Now, if you lost 40% of your grade solely for that one error, uhhh, I think I would have a problem with that. It sucks that you're in this position. If there's any way that this class can be dropped and not delay/derail your upcoming coursework and eventual graduation, I'd seriously consider doing it, even if I currently had a good overall grade in the class.

I see, I had a class very similar to that. Lots of hotties in there huh? ;)

Now if I were you I would try to talk to her and make sure she won't be grading you unfairly for the rest of the class. Either that or see if you can transfer to another section.

Congratulations. Is is nice to see common sense at the top.

By this happening to you, that prof will be reluctant to do this to someone else.
You might have been saving someone career/life during this experience.
I know that doesn't make thing pleasant, but it is at least some consolation.

Your experience is quite possibly unique in the annals of this forum.

However, hooray for the triumph of common sense. You should know, you can't always count on it winning out in the real world. Now go have a beer or two.

ATOT kept you sane? I'd hate to see what your version of insanity looks like. :)

Glad to see things worked out and you got everything straightened out.

Now keep your head down in that class and get through it in one piece, because your teacher is going to try as hard as she can to catch you for a real case of plagarism to save face, and if you hand in anything that even touches the gray area, she'll come back for you with a vengeance. If your university has a "writing center" or you just happen to know an English professor around there, stop by office hours and ask him/her to go over your paper and check for any cases of incorrect/incomplete citation. Get them to initial a final draft too, just as an insurance policy for later.

Good luck, and have one on me.
