Don't say that when you're talking with the chair of the psych. department. Appropriate formatting of articles, and particularly appropriate formatting of references, is taken very seriously within academic psychology.

Well put, and this is exactly how you should present it. I think your teacher is doing this to protect their own ass...while it is totally unecessary 99% of the time I can sort of understand why he/she did it.

I'd find her syllabus and try like hell to find a portion that she plagerized from another prof. :p

Did you write the page # anywhere? If not it's more than a formatting problem. It's also an incorrect citation.

Anyway I agree that the professor should not have given you a failure on the paper. He should have deducted whatever is standard when you format and cite erroneously.

Was the paper 30/50 just on account of improper formatting or was that the grade it "deserved" if you ignored the citation?

it was for the improper citation. The dean said he was going to make it clear to the professor that this was not plagarism, rather incorrect citation and to never make such a bold accusation such as that again without a more serious case.

Good to hear you dodged any real consequences (even though that's a crappy grade - I'm sure you deserved better)
 to you either way.

was the prof tenured or a "class by class" nOOb?

i bet n00b. Tenured profs stopped caring the day they gained tenure.

**BIG UPDATE**

The dean basically laughed at the accusation. He laughed so hard infact, that he asked the teacher to reverse the grade to a passing grade. So now, i have a 30/50 on the assignment instead of a 0. The dean said he was going to make it clear to the professor that this was not plagarism, rather incorrect citation and to never make such a bold accusation such as that again without a more serious case. This is a huge relief. Sorry for the slight delay updating, i had to go to a track meet.

I want to thank you guys, you kept me sane through all this, I was freaking out, ATOT kept me sane!

Good deal!

Justice is served!

still pretty lame. she gave you the absolute lowest grade possible without failing you.

Good to hear that things worked out your way. Are you staying in the course? Seems like it would make the rest of the semester quite awkward.

I'm glad everything went OK, but I think you should Widthdraw the class! 30/50, plus the teacher will be a bitch to you, or give you sh!tty grades. Don't fvck up your GPA.
