FAH: Update those cores!

For whatever reason, I was noticing that the 17xx series protiens would frequently reach an early end..... While the popular explaination seems to be.... "Your system is unstable Sid", I want to point out that every other application is fine (Games, CAD, Office stuff, etc.). I wouldn't even consider a re-install, speed reduction or much of anything else to correct this quirk of FAH 17xx Work Units.

However....

I was willing to check the version of my core and found it to be version 1.81 when version 1.86 is released.... OOPS. What happened to the forced updates Standord?

So I stopped the FAH service long enough to delete ALL of the cores residing in my folding directory. (careful not to delete the client :shocked: ). When I restarted FAH it immediately downloaded the latest version (1.86) and has done so for each core that has been needed since.

The good news: I haven't seen an early end since ! :thumbsup:


So just as we tell Bill Gates.... no, I don't configure my ststem to run your OS.... Your OS is to be written in a way to run MY STUFF. we can also tell Stanford. And they have responded. We just have to know that their "forced updates of cores" is not working and do it ourselves.

I had at least one instance of that today.....I'll delete cores starting tomorrow.

Good news! Thanks Insidious 🙂

There must be at least one protein WU that must have the new core to run. If you got that WU then the core would "forced updates of cores".

That was a good catch about the early ends.

I was getting those once in a while, and that was my only problem so I backed down my OC. Do you think I should pump it back up ?

The perfect OC is always a little tricky. If you had old cores and now have the new ones, I would think it's worth a try. Just be sure to use baby steps and keep an eye on it.
