FaH: A nice surprise with GPU2 resource hogging

So for a few weeks now, I've been bummed that watching TV (Hauppauge tuner) while I lurk the forums seemed un-doable. The splash screen for WinTV came up and just sat there unless I quit or paused the GPU So I paused the GPU client, turned on the TV and bummed out everytime I forgot to un-pause the folding. 🙁

Today I accidentally discovered, that I really only need to pause the GPU while the TV starts. Then I can resume it and everything (folding included) runs great!

So it's not earth shattering news, but I wanted to share it. (I don't think this would work with games.)

"Today I accidentally discovered"

If you learned something one way it is easy to think it is the ONLY way.

I often get surprised when watching someone do something on a computer and learn some cool shortcut or that the software can do something I never knew about!

This is the truth! 🙂

Here is another one. I am running the 5.92 client (couldn;t get the 6.22 smp beta to work) When it decides its a bad WU, it redownloads fahcore_a1 and after that it would do client-core communications error forever. I found that it downloads the 6.22 version of that exe, and they appear to be incompatable. If you have the old version saved off somewhere, restore it, clean the wu out, and restart, and you are good to go.

I didn't know they had more than one flavor. I know there must be a lot of people bitten with that one.

Do they have a link or anything on their website to get the right one in cases like yours?

If I remember right, the 5.9x versions expire sometime in November. Hopefully they'll have a client with a good installer and we can close the book on the SMP weirdities.
