Fading effect locking up Window 2000 Pro?

This is probably the weirdest computer problem I have encountered since the 8088-era.

Cut and pasted from here

For the lock up situation, everything will just freeze like a screenshot. But it will only freeze when I click. I can run SETI@home for days or Counter-Strike for hours without hanging. It just happens under windows environment. For some reason, it appears to hang more often when I right click the Recycle Bin.

I thought it had something to do with the NIC or mouse, but never could have imagined it is anything like that. What could possibly be causing the lock up? I was using a Diamond 770U with latest reference driver version 12.xx. Besides that, I can't think of any other possibilities. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

I had this happen too and I updated my NIC drivers for the 3Com 905C 10/100 card. Don't ask me what this had to do with it, it doesn't make any sense.

That vid card is a TNT2 Ultra right? What driver version are you on? If its not the 12.41 drivers you might want to pick em up. Came out about two weeks ago. Fixed a problem I had with MS Combat Flight Simulator 2 that would completely kill the computer. Pissed me off till I found that driver. All better now.

I had no problem with the very same setup when I was still using version 6.50. I could be the driver on the Linksys NIC too. I just have no clue on this one...
