Faded/washed out display on Toshiba 17.3 Laptop

Toshiba L675-S7108. Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

The display has become faded for quite a while. I have checked for the latest drivers for the display adapter. Have searched the Internet for this issue, but to no avail.

The display overall has become like that. At some times, it becomes really bad all of a sudden. The reboot of the laptop brings it back to its general faded self.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

could be the screen is dying? Is the screen dim or unevenly lit? Somewhat odd, since it's LED backlit, but sometimes things fail. The notebook is ~2-3 years old by now (based on the i3 380m).

replacement screens aren't too expensive, but the issue could be something else.
