FaD Question on queue behavior

I got a problem with FaD:

I gonna be away from my computer for at least a week and I can't let it stay hooked up to the internet during that time. So I wanted to download a bunch of WUs to fill up my queue and keep my PC crunching. But it seams like I can't download more than 8 jobs. Afte that I can still click the WUlist but once I click ok, the box just disappears and no new WUs get downloaded.

Any clue on that? I'd hate to turn of my PC for a week just because FaD can't provide me with enough WUs to crunch offline.

Don't worry... the client is smart enough to keep itself busy if it can't connect by making up work (that you will still get credit for) to do! Keep it on and have a great vacation!

i have the same thing happen bmc. i think there is some kind of time limit on how long units can be queued before they "expire" and if you try to download too many they start disappearing from your queue when downloading more data. ive always wondered the official reasoning of it but thats the best i can figure out because i have the same thing happen to me as well.

Oh well, I guess I just gonna let it run then. At least I'm not the only one with that problem. Geoff, do you have any official link about what you wrote? I searched the FaD site but couldn't find anything about what you wrote. Where so you know this from? Did it happen to you?

No, but you can see this behaviour by pulling out your network cable and seeing what happens when a job completes 🙂

So that's what happened to me a couple of weeks ago! I thought I was imagining things 😕

I have also seen that happen

I always throught queued workunits disappear because somebody else has already done them. (No, I don't have any official page to back this up.)

I also saw the work-generating feature today, and it looks like it does a good job. The two extra real WUs I had got only 1 hit in total, so I ran out really fast. Ironically the first generated WU, at 98%, has 26 hits!

Indeed, that's really ironic. But at least the whole self-generated WU thing gives me a good feeling when I leave my PC unattended for while!
