FaD: P4 HT CPU: 2 instances or one?

Hi!

As the title says, I've got a laptop computer with a P4 HT 2,8 CPU. I always run only one instance of FaD on it, because I heard a while ago that one instance of FaD is better, because two instances wil just slow each other that much down, so having one is just better. Any experiences on that or further reading? I mean, running two WUs after another will take less time than running them parallel. Is that true?

You will complete jobs fast with just one, but over a week, you'll get better performance from 2 copies. About 7-10% is what I see.

Ok man, I'll try that I guess.

Is there any way though how I can see when THINK saved its results to my harddrive the last time? Because I sometimes have to restart or shut down my laptop, and then I always lose some percents of the previous production. I know, that it saves every 100 steps, when a new molecule is being started. But what about in between?

Sorry dont know of a way for it to do that, what are you running on it?

FYI, if you run linux, FaD seems to give more points right now.

If your linux freindly, convert it...

What is your CPU Rating? I am only getting 148 on a 3.4ghz, 800FSB box under windoz.

180 for my P4 HT 2,8 if only one instance is running. So either mine is too high or yours is just too low ;)

Folding@Home runs faster over the long run with two clients on my HT P4, so I'd imagine FaD would too.

Yip, looks like two are indeed a little bit faster than just one. I have a CPU rating of 180 for one instance but I get two times 100 with two instances --> a gain of 20 points. I hope this is not just the numbers though! :)

i get 30 points higher in the cpu rating running 2 instances instead of 1 on my p4 2.6 :) you get a boost that is for sure. the only way ive checked my progress before shutting down was on the queue where it listed the time when it was last updated. thats the only real way ive bothered checking during a reboot/shutdown.

Thx for that hint with the queue man! I usually have that window closed but now, after I took a closer look at it, it really seems an easy and efective way to at least get a good guess about the last saving.:D:beer:
