try reinstalling the application. that seems to do wonders for a lot of errors that ive had with FaD.

cgireg connection failure means that fadsetup is not getting a proper connection to one of the servers listed in file cgi.lis. Each time you press save, fadsetup tries one of the entries in cgi.lis. The next time you press save, typically the next entry is tried. Sometimes, one or more of the servers does not respond correctly. If you press save and get the cgireg error message, try again. Usually, after pressing save 3 or 4 times, at least one server will accept the requested communication.

Actually, it is probably a firewall or connection issue.

FaD requires an internet connection to change team (and a few other critical) settings.

I find the client to be quite nice and plays nice with my computers. (I have at least one or two computers running FaD at this point 😛 )
