Fad - 30 Day Race For An AMD Athlon 2400+ System

Ross Whitehead

Golden Member
DRingdahl, our fearless leader, has graciously offered the following system to be given away:

Workstation w/:
- 2400+ AMD Athlon CPU
- ASUS motherboard
- 256 MB RAM
- 40 GB HD
- generic video card
- $35 shipping included, the winner pays the rest

To be eligible for the "race" you must:
- sign up 2 new TeAm FaD members

The winner will be determined by the member who has accumulated the most GFlops between July 8, 2004 @ 12:00 Noon GMT and Aug. 08, 2004 @ 12:00 Noon GMT. GFlops will be accumulated based on the following:
- you receive 150,000 GFlops for every new member who processes a minimum of 100,000 GFlops in the contest period
- your production in FaD counts as 1 to 1

New members are able participate, if they sign up 2 new TeAm Fad members.

Dringdahl and I will not be participating in the "race".

Please respond to this post w/ the FaD Member Name of your recruits and when you have recruited two I will add you to the stats which I will publish three times a week.

Please Note: These do not need to be existing Anandtech members (we know you'll stay when you get to know the great people here). And this is open to all new non Anandtech crunchers too, your previous points will not transfer. This is only the GFlops acrued during the contest period.

Thanks and Good luck.

Download and join, be sure you place 2039 in the team feild.

what does 2039 mean?

EDIT: Alright, I joined...so this is basically to find cures for those diseases (sp?)?

love to win the computer for my friend's fiance... but don't know how to do it!

You need to load up the client on your computer, from www.find-a-drug.org.

Then enter your team number under the general tab of the setup as 2039. Your entered... Then sign up as many people as you can who can crunch too. That is the quickest way to winning.

This is great....i wanted to do something like this...my grandma died from cancer last year...🙁, so hopefully we'll find something!

Yup, I had a couple big chunks cut out myself after I got home from Desert Storm. I'd like to find a cure before, I need it... 😉

btw, i think i'm gonna set up a few systems i have lying around in ther back here, and set them all to run it, not a bad idea i think, 😀

The only trick when setting up multiple systems is to ensure that when you install the client on other machines that you use the same NickName and email address. This will ensure that all of your clients contribute to a single entity and provide you with the highest production and chance of winning!

for now i've got my server celeron 2.4 running it, and my system intel p4 2.4 HT, so it's running 2 processes at once on my system, and a third downstairs, 😀

Any computer counts does not matter blood or not. The more you have under one account the better your odds are of winning though.

If it was me and I had access to 10 computers... I would sign up 2 under unique names and those would be my recruits. Then I would put the remaining 8 under the same name and use that name as the referrer for the other two. This would maximize your production and GFlop count.

The above may be stretching the rules... Dringdahl could you please comment.

I thought about that....but i think that'd be stretching the rules a bit...but thats for ya'll to decide, not me!

And i'm familiar with the whole DC thing, just was clarifying for the rules. I probably will get my dad into this...

Just for a comparison, how fast does say a 1Ghz P3 produce? compared to like a 3200+? I know ram probably helps make a difference and all, but I'm just sortof curious of a general guestimate

When you say RAM makes a difference, are you talking about the amount of memory a setup has? I know (from when I used to run it before I switched to FaD) that DF has/had an option to double the speed of the crunching by using up to 150mb of RAM. However, FaD does not have that option, and from the few times I've looked it up in the task manager, FaD probably uses (at most) 20mb of memory.

Hmm, what if I'm not an Anandtech cruncher? I'd feel bad trying for the system and then not doing anything else for TA 🙁 (I have my own DC team on another project, you see 😉)
