facts on vista drm?

i've heard all sorts of talk about vista having DRM that will prevent users from running certain programs or playing certain media files. can anyone give me the facts?

Vista is not going to hijack any non-DRM media that you have already. It supposedly has stronger DRM for DRM-enabled media that you might purchase online, but as you can see from the compatibility fiasco with older Plays for (un)sure media and Zune media players, any sort of "investment" in DRM-enabled (read: -disabled) media is kind of not a good idea. :disgust:

OCUR will have some pretty draconian DRM. You won't be able to copy any shows you record, even ones with the copy freely flag.

I have had no problems copying TV shows recorded with Media Center or playing back shows older than 10 days. Don't know what everyone's talking about.

I am using Vista RC 1 Build 5728.

Open Cable Unidirectional Receiver (I think that's what it stands for, I could be remembering incorrectly😛)

Basically a CableCard reader allowing you to get encrypted digital/HD cable on your computer. And they're not out yet, and apparently won't even be available as separate hardware, so you don't have one. 😉

Ah. Another horrific device for me to avoid like the plague.

So much for that.
