So I am looking to purchase a scanner for my car (see my other post about my Cop Car - pics coming soon), and my cop buddy who is giving me a lot of advice has told me to buy a specific model. He installs them along with other stuff in the squads in town, and he says they are the best. Now the thing is, about 90% of the ones I have seen for sale have been factory reconditioned. This isn't to say that they are poor quality, they are very good scanners. But, I have some concerns about purchasing a FR one. Brand new, the cheapest I can find for this model is about $105. However, factory reconditioned, I can get one for $60... best price I have found. What do you all think? Have you had any experience with FR products? Have you had any problems? I want to pay $60 instead of $100 obviously, but will I regret not buying it new? Thanks

The only factory reconditioned item I ever bought was a Sony cordless phone. For what it's worth, I bought it 4 years ago and it still works fine.

I've bought plenty of reconditioned/refurbished/used stuff: monitors, digital cameras, keyboards, laptops, and lots more and never had problems with any of them. A good idea is to see what kind of warranty comes with the scanner. Sometimes the warranty is almost as good as if the item was new, but sometimes its 30 days or even NO warranty.

O, the one I am looking at offers a 90 day warrantee. Brand new, they come with a 1 year warrantee. Sound decent?
