does anyone know if these type of monitors are any good? because I saw a 22" nec fp1350 at tigerdirect for $399. Is it worth it?
 
I bought a refurb'ed Viewsonic PT770 like 3 years ago.... still works. =) I can't complain cuz it was half of the price. I guess it all depends on what was wrong with the monitor and what they did to fix it. It's a gamble I guess but the warranty backs up your purchase.
 
I have an iiyama 22" monitor that was a refurb. No issues thus far (2 months or so).

Having the warrenty definitely helps your peace of mind.
 
I just bought a "Factory Recertified" black 17" IBM P76 FD Trinitron for $179.99 from Tiger Direct. I haven't received it yet, but this is the definition I found on their site...

"Recertified Monitors A Definition
These monitors are recertified by IBM. They are not used. These monitors have been returned to IBM for a number of reasons, i.e.: a customer refused shipment, returned the monitor without opening the box, or received the shipment in a damaged box. IBM completely recertifies these monitors?at their factory?and repacks them in brand new packaging. They are recertified to "as-brand-new" condition and pass quality control checks. They carry the full IBM one-year warranty. Why pay more? These monitors are in brand-new condition, with full factory certification?and you pocket the savings!"

I will let you know on Tuesday if they are indeed new..

 
I bought a "Recertified" 19" NEC FP950 from TigerDirect a few months ago. The monitor is excellent. The recertified monitors are new and not used or refurbished. The only thing I was surprised by, was that the 1 year warranty is only on labor. Parts are for 90 days. The monitor I bought sells in the $450 range, but I only paid $299 for it plus the shipping was only $20. I was pleased with everything; shipping condition, cost and quality of the monitor. If you don't mind taking a chance, you could get a "new" monitor at a bargain price.
 
I think that Factory Recertified equipment and monitors would be OK, as long as you get a full warranty on it. It just means that something was professionally fixed with the thing, it is not like you getting something that was used before.
 
"Factory recertified" depends on the meanings of "factory" and "recertified." The "factory" may be a modern facility that rebuilds monitors on a production line, routinely replaces certain parts even if they're good, and measures every operating parameter. Or it may be a repair shop that performs just the needed repairs and then runs the monitor for a day.

Be sure that the rebuilder is a representative of the manufacturer and that the warranty is for at least a year and is backed by them. But even this isn't a guarantee of quality work, as my recent experience with Panasonic/Heartland proved - monitor smashed before it was put into the box (they tried to blame UPS), internal wires left unconnected (at least one was a safety ground), and a dishonest administrator named Herman outright lied to me.

 
The iiyama I got comes with a 2yr warrenty compared to 3yrs for a new one.

It was actually drop-shipped from Mitsubishi in So Cal. It looks like they may manufacturer iiyama's monitors. I know they use the Mitsu NF picture tube.
 
I have a value concience Multisync 95 (19&quot😉 I got for $300.

I like it and check this, last week I got a "dead pixel" right in the middle of my screen. I have had the monitor for 9 months. Called up NEC, told them my problem, gave them my model #, they put a new one in the mail "2 day air" with 21 days for me to ship the old monitor back.

I should get it tomorrow, not to shabby.
 
Hey, I just got my monitor from Tiger Direct. It is a 17" P76 Black FD Trinitron. The box it came in was a plain brown box from IBM and it was stamped "Used Monitor". The monitor also had a sticker on the back that said it was used. However, the monitor appeared to be brand new, I couldn't find one scratch or blemish on it and it works great. I would say if it was used, it wasn't used very long because it was spotless and the cords were still in the original packaging. I even looked in the back where the connections were as dust usually accumulates there..and it was clean. Either these were used and cleaned up perfectly, or they were never actually used. I think the latter is true and I couldn't be happier. I got a almost $400 monitor for $180...not too shabby.
