Facial hair considered unprofessional?

I think a lot of people in the professional world have facial hair. Clean shaven gives a slightly better look, but I don't think there would be a problem as long as you keep it trimmed nicely.
 
As long as it trimmed neat, there aren't any traces of what you had for lunch in them and the ilk...you should be fine. Lots of people at my old workplace had beards (goatees, full face etc.)

My last workplace was a Tech Support Call Center though...
 
I probably wouldn't have given it a second's thought myself of keeping it, but if I noticed that all the men in the new workplace are clean shaven then I might think about it.
 
I always keep a really short goatee. And when I say short, I mean I keep it short. I'll trim it with a regular hair cutting trimmers with no extension every couple of days. I like it because I prefer that to shaving my whole face, not to mention every girl I know doesn't want me to shave it when I ask them about it (not that it would matter, cause if I shaved it off it'd grow back in two days).
 
If you have a burly mass or goatee like a ponytail (what was the name of the WWF wrestler that had that?)...yeah, get rid of it. If it is a neatly trimmed and groomed goatee, keep it.
 
I have a full beard that I keep (for the most part...lol) neatly trimmed.

I've had no problems getting jobs/getting promoted/etc.

I think that as long as you keep it neat you'd be ok. Although, even a neatly trimmed Fu-man-chu might be a little too much for some corporatations. 🙂
 
I have an unkempt beard down to my navel. I wouldnt dream of shaving it off as my peers would laugh thier asses off. But then when you belong to the local 417 Hermit and wisemen union you do what ya can to fit in.

Then why do you have a guy with a bushy beard as an avatar? Something doesn't add up.

I could ask the same about yours...unless you really do look like a chinese platypus. If that's the case I appologize.
