Facetime won't work

Kept trying to for Facetime with a friend who also had an iPhone last night and it wouldnt let us. We were both talking about pressed our Facetime buttons, it only showed us our own faces. Not fun. I tried calling her through Facetime and it just kept ringing on my end. She called me Facetime and I answered, it said connecting and just showed me my own face and then said facetime failed. We both have wifi as well (still can't get my 3G consistent though) plus I had 5 calls drop yesterday in my house-that has never happened before. I still have verizon, can changing a phone screw up your reception???

Have you tried the following;
Restoring the iPhone?
Made sure it is up to date?
Gotten it replaced at an Apple Store?

Trying turning facetime off and then back on. We had an issue when we switched phones around and it had to do with facetime being separate from the carrier. Even though verizon had my wife's number right Apple's facetime server didn't. A reboot cleared it up. Try that and then if that doesn't work try a full restore.

It is a brand new phone, I just got it literally less than a week ago so a reset and replacement and all that shouldn't be necessary.. We were both over wifi, and they are both facetime enabled, its the same iPhone

No, we are just using our phones. We were both talking and pressed the Facetime button and it said 'connecting' but only showed us each ourselves. Then it disconnected us. We tried calling each other through facetime and same thing, said connecting showing only our own faces.

Are you on the same wifi connection? I ask because I had a similar issue using the same wifi (slow) connection.

I did too - Same wifi connection won't work. Well its more difficult than that because my wife and I DID manage once on the same wifi. I've also experienced similar trials with facetime, I've never had it just work.
