Faces of Insect Death

Spring is here in Michigan, and with it came the first hornet of the year to make its way into my house, wherein he met a sure and quick death.

Though he seemed to be sort of alive while taking the pics.

One Left profile
Two Right profile and my sore cuticle
Three On his deathbed
Four Last known photo of insect before being flung outside as a warning to other insects.
A picture of my cat just for some levity.

I have a programmed fear/hate of hornets bees and wasps. Mainly because I was stung about 40 times before turning 5, and I was once trapped in a car with about 10 angry bees.

So feel free to talk about Spring, insects, or stories about being stung. Or anything, really. :)

sedate some bees in a jar w/ some rubbing alcohol, tie sewing thread to all of them and attach to a stick or something. WHen they wake, watch them go!
<--- use to do them to cicadas :p

Are you going to kill your cat and fling him/her outside too?

Only if she stings me.

Let's hope she never bites you. I would feel sorry for all the cats in your neighborhood.

You'll need stronger string for cicadas.... their mass usually rips their own legs off during the struggle

EDIT: BTw, how old is that kitty? ;)

I don't think I'd have the guts to handle cicadas, they're huge! The cat is... hmm *quick head math* 11. Still a kitten at heart though.

I really hate bees as well. But they seem to choose my house for their nest/hive for some odd reason. Most recently I had to deal with bees that decided to make a hive inside an old empty box in my backyard (tried animal control but it was a Sunday so they wouldn't come out). Dunno if they were africanized or anything. I went in there with dual action raid in each hand wearing a rainjacket. I had a raid bug bomb in my pocket. I cleared the way to the box using hit and run tactics with the raid. When I got close enough to the hive, I pulled the tab on the bug bomb and thrusted it directly into the box then proceeded to run like a little school girl since they were getting really mad (since their buzzing had increased alot).

After 3 hours, they were dead. And the whole box contained a couple hundred bees.

:Q I'm reminded of the scene in Lord of the Rings where the guy runs into and ignites the bombs packed in the doorway of the fort.

be glad you arent allergic to insects. i have had several late night visits to the emergency room for bee/wasp stings and spider bites. when i was really young a bee stung me on the cheek and my right eye was swollen shut for a week and half my face was swollen like the elephant man.

hehe it wasn't as cool as I described. I did alot of hit and run and spraying. never gotten stung before and didn't want to find out. But the bug bomb was funny. The bees were coming out of the opening of the box so I had to spray a bit on the opening to keep them from coming out while activating the bug bomb. My backup was a hose spraying water over the area. Had to dodge alot of bees though. I used up alot of raid that day. And people, even though they recommend soapy water, it's kinda hard to make it in vast quantities when you're going against a hive/nest. Tried it using one a bottle filled with soap that attaches to the garden hose and it didn't work. :(

That does suck :( I remember one specific sting, it was from the biggest "bumble bee" I've ever seen. I ticked it off, and it started flying circles around me. I took off running like Forrest Gump and it CHASED ME! I had ran like 300 yards and when I finally stopped I felt something on the back of my neck right over my brain stem area, reached up to feel whatever it was, and felt the most horrible sting ever experienced in my life. I don't know if the location of the sting had anything to do with it... but after that I felt VERY woozy and dizzy.

I don't care what people say... bees and hornets are HELL BENT on revenge.
