A friend of my parent's is having an issue, and I'm not to up-to-date on viruses and what's going around so hoping maybe you guys have heard of it.

She was on her PC Friday morning checking emails and her long time friend sent her a message via Facebook with a link in it, so since it was from her friend she clicked on the link. After that she shut down her PC and went to work. Now it's Saturday and she can't visit any websites except Wellsfargo.com, everything and anything else she attempts to go to gives her a 404 error or just simply the website cannot be found - check your internet connection error.

She has Norton and has ran a virus scan and it didn't pick up anything, and when I google "facebook virus" I get something that has to do with a virus embedded in the flashplayer.exe file that's suppose to mess up your video. Where as this isn't the case for her as she can't access websites.

Any thoughts?

I would start by downloading superantispyware and malwarebytes on another computer rename the something random like TTTT.exe put them on a cd or flash drive and try installing them on the problem computer once installed if they wont run again change the name of the executable to something random since you can't get on the net run them w/o updating if necc. preferable while completely disconnected from the net. Then see if you can get on if so update them and run both again in the full scan modes. also a hijackthis log would be a good idea. I will bet this is at least part of the problem.

Can you get the system and work on it in person? If so, I could add some suggestions.
